SUR 3103 Geomatics – Measurement and Mapping General Course Schedule
(See ELearning Assessment and Assignment Tools for online quizzes, exams, and homework)
Our Process: Welcome to SUR 3103 Geomatics by extension. Lectures are being offered over the web through
the University of Florida course website.
1. Get Text -- It's easy to order the text over the web. It will be delivered to you by mail/UPS/FedEx in a couple of
days. There are quite a few web sites that sell college text books. You may use any one, but here a few to try:
www.bestbookbuy.com, www.textbooks.com, www.varsitybooks.com, www.a1books.com. The text is:
Elementary Surveying, 12th Edition, Wolf and Ghilani, Prentiss Hall.
After getting the text, our weekly process follows the following routine:
2. View Lectures -- Get online and begin viewing lectures. Log onto UF Elearning and also get onto the course
website. On the course website, click on the lecture links for streaming viewing, or right click "save target as" to
your hard drive for viewing from your computer. Begin viewing lectures. If you have problems, contact me and I'll
work with you to get going.
3. Read Text -- For most lectures below, there is a text reading assignment.
4. Work Key Problems -- Work the "key" text problems in preparation for the lecture quiz.
5. Take Lecture Quiz – Each lecture quiz will cover the (1) lecture content, (2) associated text reading (if any
listed), (3) and key problems associated with the lecture (if any listed). Sign on to UF ELearning, select the
"Assessment Tool" on the left hand tool list. You may use your lecture notes, text, text reading notes, and text
problem solutions in these quizzes "open book". Once starting a quiz, you have a set length of time until you
cannot save anymore answers – usually about 2 minutes per question. Save your answers and submit your quiz
within the time limit.
6. Do and Submit the Homework – The Course Materials below show each Homework assignment and the lectures
that "feed" that homework. Download the homework from the course webpage, do the homework, and attach your
solution (usually a document *.doc, an Excel spreadsheet *.xls, or a scanned document *.jpg) to the homework
upload using the UF ELearning "Assignment Tool".
NOTE: Since I may be updating and changing Homework assignments do not printout the homework until needed.
Make sure you have the homework assignment printed as available on the course website the week that you
perform the work.
7. MIDTERM and FINAL EXAMs: Our Midterm and Final Exams will be about two from each lecture topic, a
mixture of lecture, reading, and problems. The FINAL will be taken over UF ELearning, very much like our
weekly quizzes. You must take the final at a computer within sight of a "proctor", a person who agrees to give
oversight to the exam process. You may use your calculator.
GRADES: Check the posted Syllabus for the grading system. You may check your grades at any time. Access the
course grade book in UF ELearning.
