Here’s how we need to handle illness and prevent the spread of it:
If you are sick, you should stay home, get well, and NOT SPREAD it!
Signs you should stay home:
1. fever means you are contagious (and thus should not be in class)
2. sneezing and coughing (wear a mask if you MUST be out)
3. vomiting or diarrhea (probably will keep you home anyway)
Not enough sleep (for whatever reason), mild headache, hangovers, etc. you should
haul yourself into class and keep your commitment! But if you are really sick – please
stay home!
Our syllabus stipulates that I will not accept late work. So for homework and
classwork assignments you might miss due to illness, here are some options:
So IF an illness should arise, preventing you from attending class (Remember: you
have 4 absences before you are dropped.) you should immediately email a class mate*
your homework (if there is any due) so your contact can print it out and turn it in for you
at the beginning of class.
Even if there is no homework due, you should email or text your contact to take notes
for you, to let you know if you miss any in-class work**, and if there are any new
assignments.
Also – ALWAYS check the class website IF you have to miss class!
You can also have someone else (friend, sibling, parent, partner, roommate, etc.) drop it
off in our class (particularly Psyc 125 students if you happen to be ill on a Tuesday).
*First day of class – everyone will find a class mate to act as their contact! If you join
late, make sure you’ve got a contact.
**For missed IN-CLASS assignments, if you contact me immediately (within 24 hrs), I
will give you a replacement assignment that must be turned in next class meeting.
You MUST be in class the day and time of our final (set by the college) as you must
take the final to pass the course! If you are ill, we will try to find a secluded spot for you.
I hope these options will help us prevent the spread of illness while encouraging you to
take responsibility for your commitments.
Stay well - Debby
