As we gather, let’s sing: The Family Prayer Song - # 10 on the yellow song card

Terri: Good evening. My name is Terri Klasing. I would like to welcome all of
you to this evening’s service. We offer a special welcome to those of you
attending a Candlelight Service for the first time. We are gathered tonight in
Christ’s name to lift up the retreatants in prayer, song and blessing. This
evening is a very special part of the retreat.

There are -- men who have come to participate in this ACTS retreat. In
addition, -- men have worked together as team members for thirteen weeks,
preparing for this weekend. The entire ACTS Community has been praying for
all of these men during this time. Now you, with your prayers and songs, will add
to the petitions for the grace that flows from the Holy Spirit.

Later tonight when the men join us, we will greet them with song and a chapel
full of lighted candles – symbols that we are all part of the Body of Christ and
called to be the light of the world.
Let me introduce Tamin McLoughlin, to lead us in our opening prayer.

Tamin: In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
(Amen.) Lord, we ask you to be with us this evening. Give us your grace and
peace and allow us to be a part of the spiritual growth of our friends and
families. Give us the courage to be strong when they need our strength, to be
rivers of peace when they need our comfort, and to be sources of joy at all
times in their lives. In Jesus’ name we pray. (Amen.)

                                        1
Tamin: Let us sing together: Come Follow Me - #13 on the blue song card

Terri: The ACTS retreat movement instills in us the desire to read and study
sacred scripture.

Our director selected as the theme for this retreat a passage taken from the
book of Jeremiah:

“THUS SAYS THE LORD: ONLY AFTER 70 YEARS HAVE ELAPSED FOR
BABYLON WILL I VISIT YOU AND FULFILL FOR YOU MY PROMISE TO BRING
YOU BACK TO THIS PLACE. FOR I KNOW WELL THE PLANS I HAVE IN MIND
FOR YOU, SAYS THE LORD, PLANS FOR YOUR WELFARE, NOT FOR
DESTRUCTION! PLANS TO GIVE YOU A FUTURE FULL OF HOPE. WHEN YOU
CALL ME, WHEN YOU GO TO PRAY TO ME, I WILL LISTEN TO YOU. WHEN YOU
LOOK FOR ME, YOU WILL FIND ME. YES, WHEN YOU SEEK ME WITH ALL
YOUR HEART, YOU WILL FIND ME WITH YOU, SAYS THE LORD, AND I WILL
CHANGE YOUR LIFE. Jeremiah 29: 10-14

Second reading from Matthew 7: 7-8

ASK AND IT WILL BE GIVEN TO YOU; SEEK AND YOU WILL FIND;
KNOCK AND THE DOOR WILL BE OPENED TO YOU. FOR EVERYONE
WHO ASKS, RECEIVES; AND THE ONE WHO SEEKS, FINDS; AND TO
THE ONE WHO KNOCKS, THE DOOR WILL BE OPENED.

Tamin: The ACTS retreat movement is inspired by the following passage.
A reading from the Acts of the Apostles, Chapter 2, Verses 42 to47.

They devoted themselves to the teaching of the apostles and to the communal
life, to the breaking of the bread and to the prayers. Awe came upon everyone,
and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles.

All who believed were together and had all things in common: they would sell
their property and possessions and divide them among all according to each
one’s need. Every day they devoted themselves to meeting together in the
temple area and to breaking bread in their homes.
                                       2
They ate their meals in exultation and sincerity of heart, praising God and
enjoying favor with all the people. And every day the Lord added to their
number those who were being saved.

Terri: Let us sing together: Step by Step - #4 on the yellow song card.

Terri: As you entered the chapel tonight, family members or friends were given
a cross for each retreatant. The cross you are holding will be brought forward
and blessed tonight. These crosses will be given to the men on Sunday morning
at the end of the retreat weekend.
Do we have any unclaimed crosses? (Pause.) As I call out the names, I ask that
a family member or friend please come forward and receive the cross. If a
family member is not available, I ask that a member of the ACTS community
come forward for the cross. Fr. Carlos blessed these crosses at the beginning
of the retreat weekend. (Hand out remaining crosses.)

We will begin our litany for the retreatants now. A special blessing will be
asked for each retreatant and as their names are called we ask that a family
member or close friend come forward and place the individual cross on the
larger cross up here at the altar. We will call five names at a time. Tammy and
I will read the retreatants’ litany in groups of five. After each set of names we
will sing the petition: “Hear our prayer, hear our prayer, God of mercy, hear our
prayer.” You will find these words at #7 on the yellow song card.

Terri: We ask that you extend your hands in prayer over these crosses.
Let us pray. Lord, we come to you this evening to ask your blessing upon these
crosses. Bless the men who will wear them. Keep them ever mindful of Your
Holy Sacrifice. Let these crosses be a constant reminder of the love you
bestow upon each of them. Help them as they strive to follow your model of
obedience to the Will of God and become true disciples of Christ. We ask this
in Your name. (Amen.)

Terri: Now we need to prepare for the men’s arrival. Many of them do not
know that we have gathered here for them. Some suspect you will be here
because they have attended a candlelight service for a family member or
friend. Your prayers and songs will touch all of them tonight.

                                       6
Moments before they enter we will light the candles. The candles are for
adults only. We also have special Glow Sticks for the children. They can keep
the Glow stick after the service. Right before the men arrive, if the children
choose to participate, we would like for them to assemble in 2 lines by the doors
to greet the men. I have heard several men comment how beautiful it was to
enter the chapel and see the children first as they enter. The children should
return to their pews after the whole line is in the chapel. Sorry moms, you get
them back.

As the men move through the church in single file you may hug or kiss them but
please try not to stop the line in which they are moving. They need to circulate
through the entire chapel so that each family member or friend may catch a
glimpse of them. We will sing to and with them while they are in the chapel.

We will rehearse our song now – The Candlelight Hymn - #8 on the blue song
card.

Terri: In honor of these men, let’s sing: Willing Servant - # 1 on the yellow
song card.

Tamin: ACTS is an acronym for Adoration, Community, Theology and Service,
and these four themes are the focus of the activities of the weekend. The
letters A, C, T, & S also stand for Another Chance To Sing, so let us sing
together:

Jesus Walked on the Water - #21 on the blue card

Terri:
The men are on their way. As a reminder, as the men move through the church
in single file you may hug or kiss them but please try not to stop the line in
which they are moving. We also would ask that after we have spent our time
here with the men that you remain in your seats until after we sung our final
song. Kids now is your time to head to door to sing for your dads and friends.

The men will enter the chapel led by the directors, Pat and Brian. After they
have processed through the chapel they will stand at the altar.

Men Arrive.

Fr. Carlos:
Men, while you have been participating in the services
this evening, your families and friends and members of
the ACTS community have gathered in this chapel to
pray for you. They have joined us here to demonstrate
their agape love for you – a transcendent love that
expresses itself through our common bond with Jesus
Christ. The vision that has been presented to you here
                                        9
this evening is a vision of the Body of Christ, His
Church, His Love – expressed in the faces, the prayers,
the songs of the people who love you.

Pat Klasing: As a demonstration of our love for our
families and friends, and our dedication to live as Christ
lived, let’s sing our retreat song: WITH ALL MY HEART

After song, men process out of the chapel.

Terri: You may extinguish your candles, but please do not leave the chapel yet.
We need to allow the men time to move to the next service of the retreat.
(Have someone at the doors to keep people from leaving)

We thank you for coming to share this very special evening with us and with
your loved ones. One quick announcement before we sing our final song. Please
join us tomorrow at Holy Spirit Church at the 1:00 PM Mass for an exuberant
and joyful “Welcome Home” Mass. A light lunch will be served for the
retreatants, the team and their families and friends in the Banquet Room after
Mass.
Good night and God bless you.

Let us conclude our service tonight by singing together:
Lord I Lift Your Name on High - #2- on the yellow song card.
