Larry Lee "Fitz" Fitzgerald " NSS-CDS Cave instructor #295 and founder of America

Online's Scuba Forum, died of a heart attack Monday, December 1st. He was 46

Fitz was an Army brat who learned to dive as a Boy Scout when his father was stationed in

Ft. Bragg, NC, and later served as a ship's diver in the U.s. Coast Guard.

.. Larry's recreational diving career included wreck diving on the North Carolina coast, diving

in Florida's cave and cavern systems, and dive trips to the Caribbean and South Pacific islands.

He was an active NSS-CDS cave diving instructor, and an avid underwater photographer and

videographer, whose images captured the magic and the mystery of the underwater world.

Larry's topside career was broadcasting. Starting as a college radio station disc jockey

before moving to television, Fitz worked at WFMY-TV2 in Greensboro since 1978, becoming a

well-known voice-over announcer, videographer/editor, and remote broadcast operations

manager.

Larry was instrumental in establishing AOrs Scuba Forum in 1988, and was actively involved

with its development as an on-line meeting place for the diving community until his death.
