Standard 8.1 COMPUTER AND INFORMATION LITERACY
All students will use computer applications to gather and organize information and to solve problems.
Strand
A. Basic Computer Skills and Tools
Goals
By the end of Grade 6, students will:
Be able to communicate with others about technology using correct terminology appropriate to sixth graders.
Use keyboard shortcuts for a variety of tasks including starting programs, copying and pasting, saving, and closing.
Create a published piece of writing for a content area with APA formatting.
Use a scanner to scan a document and save to a specified folder and insert it into a document.
Independently use a spreadsheet to add data and produce a simple pie chart or bar graph.
Develop and analyze information in a database.
Independently plan a research-based multimedia presentation in a content area with 5-6 slides with transition, animation, sound, and graphics.
Independently access and manage network folders and files.
Independently use organizer creation software in an original task in a specific content area.
Describe everyday uses for word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software using vocabulary appropriate for sixth graders.
Identify the author, copyright date, date of creation, and revision and be able to discuss bias of a web page.
Respond in writing in a chat to content related questions using appropriate manners.
Provide attribution for materials in an age appropriate form.
Effectively use Boolean Search Strategies when using search engines and databases.
Identify, diagnose, and suggest solutions for non-functioning technology systems – power cables, disk in drive, and need for virus protection.
Enduring Understandings
Technology is constantly changing and requires continuous learning of new skills.
Selection of technology should be based on personal and/or career needs assessment.
