Use of Bercaw Hall
The Church Council recently adopted a set of guidelines
related to the use/rental of Bercaw Hall by non-profit
groups as well as non-members and members. These
policies, which include fees, are an attempt to standardize
the way we allow various individuals and groups to use our
facilities. We also hope that this will encourage groups to
consider using Bercaw Hall for various functions and
events. The guidelines and fees are available in the
church office. Council will also begin a conversation on
how we might renovate Bercaw Hall to make it more
attractive for future dinners and parties.
Financial Update
While we are well behind in meeting our budgetary goals for 2009,
we are meeting all of our financial obligations. During these trying
economic times, we are grateful for your continued support. Additional
giving will allow us to pursue new and expanded program opportunities
as well as ongoing upkeep and improvement of our campus.
Special Gifts Received !
Recently we have received two special gifts totaling $10,000! The donors designated
these funds for a variety of “Wish List” projects and programs. We are extremely
grateful for these special contributions. If you have a project you would like to help
fund or if you want to learn more about additional opportunities please contact
Pastor Carl. Gifts in any amount are greatly appreciated!

Thank You Choir Members!
Our Senior Choir, under the direction of James Reed, is
now on “summer break.” We are very grateful for their
committed service to LCR. They meet weekly for re-
hearsal, lead our 8:30 service and offer special musical
programs and concerts throughout the year. Please
thank them for their time and commitment to our Music
Ministry.
Praise Team Kudos!
Our Praise Team will continue leading the 10:15 service throughout the summer
and we greatly appreciate their leadership and enthusiasm. Amy Switzer serves as
our Praise Team Leader and over the years we have witnessed the growth of this
fine musical ensemble. Be sure to express your gratitude for the energy they
bring to our worship experience.
Friendship Task Force News
Due to the Swine Flu scare, the Japanese students
who usually are with us in July will not be coming this
year. We know the generous host families who look
forward to housing the students will be
disappointed, but we thank them in advance for hosting
them next year.
Upcoming Events
The Friendship Task Force (FTF) will be sponsoring a Japanese Brush Painting Class this summer. The
class will be taught by Tomoko Uehara and will take place in T-Hall on Saturday, July 25 from 10 AM to 11 AM.
There will be a $15 fee for materials. We will be offering these classes several times a year like we do the
Flower Arranging classes. Speaking of Flower Arranging, the next class will be given in the Fall. Watch your
bulletins for the announcements of sign-up times for both these classes.
In September (date and time to be announced) FTF will be presenting Movie Night. The feature will be the
Japanese subtitled movie, "Departures". This film, which won the Oscar for best foreign language film last
February, is the first Japanese film to win the award in more than 50 years. "Departures", according to film
critic Betsy Sharkey, "is a gentle film about a quiet man in conflict with his world, his father, and himself. Yet
the film manages to be anything but dark; a warmhearted blend of whimsy and sweet irony are laced
throughout." Another film critic, Mark Olsen, has this to say, "Departures plays as a gentle comedy of man-
ners before it slowly transitions into a heart-tugging story of forgiveness and redemption."
Now we don't want to give too much away, but the charming plot concerns an unemployed cello-player who
almost mistakenly becomes someone who performs a ceremonial preparation of the dead to ready them for
their journey into the afterlife. FTF strongly urges you to attend this outstanding film when it is presented.
On October 25th, FTF will present a Harp Service in honor of
Joyce Mizushima. Renown harpist, Ellie Choate, will be playing as

Grocery Card Roundup
Do you buy groceries? Do you use a preferred customer
card from Albertsons, Ralphs, or Vons? If so, did you know
that LCR can earn up to 4% of the grocery dollars you spend
at these fine stores? How, you ask? By linking your preferred customer cards to LCR. It’s easy.
Simply email Sue Taylor at wrtaylor@ix.netcom.com with the following information:
* Store name (Albertsons, Ralphs or Vons)
* Preferred customer or Rewards customer number - found under the Bar code on your card
* Your name and phone number.
That’s all there is to it. You can also call Sue at 714-964-1725 or see her at the scrip table. Sue will
check to see if your grocery card links are current, and re-link your cards to LCR. If you have preferred
customer cards to all three of these stores, why not link them all?

One of the most constant things we encounter as human beings is change. It may seem an
oxymoron to think of change as a constant, but it is. On the surface our everyday lives may seem
monotonous and routine, but in reality, every day is full of change and transition. Sometimes the
changes are major, such as graduating from high school, getting married, losing a loved one, the birth
of a child, moving, and so many more. But mostly the changes in our lives are more subtle. They occur
quietly and often without much notice. How often have we remarked after not seeing a child for
awhile, “my, how you’ve grown!” The parent may be surprised by the remark, as the change has been
too subtle for them to notice. But the truth is we are learning, growing and changing every day,
whether we realize it or not. Much of that learning results in changes as to how we see the world and
how the world sees us. But for Christians, the one thing that remains constant in our lives is Jesus
Christ. He is the same today, tomorrow, and yesterday. His love for His children is constant,
unchanging, and something that we can count on forever. As we struggle with the changes and
obstacles that come our way, we can always count on Jesus. He is walking right beside us and He will
be a light for our path.
As we begin our summer program, I am reminded of all of the changes that have happened
over the course of our school year. We began our year with some very cautious barely “3’s” and
we ended with some very confident “almost 4’s!” We have said “good bye” to some of our little ones
(who somehow over the course of 3 years became “big ones!”) and we have welcomed some new little
people. We have said “farewell” to some teachers and added some new faces to our staff. But through
all of the changes our Lord’s love has been constant. What a gift our parents, our teachers, and our
congregation is providing for these little children! The opportunity to grow and learn in an atmosphere
that reflects God’s love, to learn Bible verses, and to learn all nine “Fruits of the Spirit.” Our little
ones go to chapel and hear God’s word every month. We also “make a joyful noise” every day as we
raise our voices in song to praise Him. Thank you for helping to make our dream of a preschool here at
Resurrection Lutheran a reality. And thank you for your continuing support of our program.
In His Service,
Judy
