Applications
Downloaded applications and applications saved on a TransFlash memory card can be installed
and be made available for use on the FOMA handset. However, even compatible files may not be
installed or may not function after installation. Approximately 190 applications* of about 100
Kbytes each after installation can be installed.
*: The number varies depending on the application size and space used by other applications.
• The following file types which is compatible with Symbian OS can be installed:
SIS : Symbian Installation (.sis)

1MIDlet
MIDlet is a type of Java application and defined by J2ME (Java 2 Micro Edition)/CLDC

Security scan light
Protecting the Handset from Data that can Cause Damage
Delete harmful data and harmful applications from launching by scanning and detecting
problems in files imported to the FOMA handset, such as those downloaded from a Web site.
You can use Security Scan Light to detect harmful data that might cause handset failure. If
pattern data for a failure is not downloaded to a mobile phone, or if pattern data for a certain
failure does not exist, it may be impossible to delete the harmful data using this function.
Cautions when Using Security Scan Light
• Install applications at your own risk after confirming their safety. There is a possibility
of virus infection and/or data destruction.
• DoCoMo assumes no responsibility for malfunctions caused by applications you
install. In this case, you will be charged for repairs, even during the warranty period.
• DoCoMo assumes no responsibility for any consequential damage to you or a third
party caused by applications you installed.
• Use correct procedures for scanning as described in the Instruction Manual.
• Security Scan Light does not detect or eliminate all problems. It cannot scan some files.
• The pattern data is specific to a certain model of mobile phone. Therefore, DoCoMo may stop distributing
pattern data for a model 3 years after the model is released.
Before performing a scan
• Data on harmful patterns is used for checking files on the FOMA handset. The pattern data is modified every
time a new problem is found. Update the pattern data.
• Before updating the pattern data, charge the battery to its full level.
• During an update of the pattern data, never remove the battery pack.
• The pattern data cannot be updated under the following circumstances.
- When no UIM is installed - When an invalid UIM is installed
Applications
- When the PIN is locked - When the PUK is locked
- During reception of a call - During a voice call
- During a video call - During packet communications
- While in Self mode - In a locked state
- While out of the service area - During international roaming
- When an external device is connected - While switching networks
- While saving data to the TransFlash memory card - When the TransFlash memory card is being deleted
- While checking the TransFlash memory card usage - While other applications are active
- During reception of email/SMS
- While using mova in a Dual Network Service
- While packet communication is not available over the network

Performing a Scan
First, update the pattern data to the latest pattern data.
• Be sure to download the latest problem definition file (free of a communication fee) before starting scanning.
• Because running applications cannot be scanned, be sure to stop all applications before scanning. They
cannot be scanned correctly unless stopped. If you do not know how to stop an application, check with the
vendor of the application.
