Application for Absent & Outstation Status
Please familiarise yourself with Article 17 of the Society’s Constitution on Absent and Outstation status:
Article 17: Absent and Outstation Members
1. A member who intends to leave Singapore may apply in writing to the Honorary Secretary to be placed in either of the
following categories:
a. Absent member if the member shall leave Singapore for a continuous period of more than six months but not
exceeding five years
b. Outstation member if the member shall leave Singapore for a continuous period exceeding five years.
2. An application must be submitted before the member leaves Singapore and must be accompanied by documentary
proof of the appropriate period of absence.
3. The Committee may, at its sole discretion, approve such application provided the member has paid up all monies due
to the Society at the time that such application is submitted.
4. The Committee may charge the member an administration fee as determined from time to time.
5. An Absent member shall not be required to pay any subscription whilst the member is out of Singapore.
6. An Outstation member shall be required to pay an annual subscription at the rate of one-fourth of the annual subscription
payable.
7. Absent and Outstation members returning to Singapore shall notify the Honorary Secretary in writing immediately
upon return and the member shall resume payment of subscription at the prevailing monthly rate. The member may be
required to submit documentary proof of his date of return to Singapore.
8. An Absent member shall be deemed to have returned to Singapore and shall be liable to resume payment of normal
subscriptions upon the expiry of the period of absence for which approval was originally granted unless the member
applies in writing to the Honorary Secretary and is granted approval of extension of Absent Membership in accordance
with Article 17(1)(a) or placed on Outstation Membership in accordance with Article 17(1)(b).
9. Absent and Outstation members shall at all times keep the Society informed in writing of changes in the member’s
corresponding address, failing which correspondence delivered to the member’s last known address shall be deemed
to be valid.
10. The Society shall not be obliged to communicate with the member or extend any of the privileges of the Society whilst
the member is not in Singapore.
Points to Note:
1. Absent Status
• Member provides documentary proof that he or she will be overseas for a continuous period of six months to five years.
• A one-time administrative fee of $53.50 (inclusive of GST) is payable upon approval of application.
• During the period of absence, monthly subscription fees are suspended except in the months where there is usage of
NUSS facilities.
2. Outstation Status
• Member provides documentary proof that he or she will be overseas for a continuous period exceeding five years.
• A one-time administrative fee of $53.50 (inclusive of GST) is payable upon approval of application.
• During the period of absence, a reduced subscription fee of one-quarter the prevailing annual subscription fee is
payable.
3. Application for Absent and Outstation Status
A complete application for Absent and Outstation status will require the following:
• A copy of documentary proof (for example, company letter, exit permit, visa, etc) stating the intended period of absence;
• A cheque of $53.50 (inclusive of GST) as administration fee;
• A cheque for your outstanding payments to the Society (if any);
• The mailing address to which you want all your correspondence to be sent when you are away from Singapore;
• A letter of undertaking to continue paying the monthly entrance fee instalments for members who have outstanding
entrance fee instalments to settle.
4. Other Points
• Approval of Absent and Outstation status is subject to the member providing the necessary information overleaf and is
granted at the sole discretion of the Committee. The period of Absent or Outstation status will commence the month
following the Committee’s approval.
• Subscription fees will be debited from the member’s account for use of the Society’s facilities during the period of
absence.
• The member must keep the Society informed of changes in mailing address, otherwise correspondence delivered to
the last known address will be regarded as valid.
