Physical description
     The kangaroo rat is a rat but it looks like a mouse

because of its distinct fur and three claws per paw. It is

15cm. at its tallest with an 8in. tail and 3in.whiskers. The

kangaroo rat has stubby arms but strong back feet with

which it uses to jump like a kangaroo. Its small body helps

to run fast and its black eyes enable it to see well in the dark

while searching for food. The rat’s long, hairy tail helps it

change direction while jumping above the desert floor.

Kangaroo rats are amazing because of all the unique

characteristics that it has.

                            Habitat

      The kangaroo rat lives in places that are dry and hot,

such as a desert. The Kangaroo rat loves its habitat because

 it can easily find food there so it will never go hungry. It

also likes                                              small

 spaces                                               like a hole

in which                                              is where it

makes its                                             den in the

earth. It                                                can

   salvage old dens that other animals like Chinchillas or

snakes have left. Dust can fly as the kangaroo rat digs holes

in the ground to have its babies in. It likes to live places that

   have warmer weather. Kangaroo rats enjoy hot desert

                           weather.

                              Diet

     Kangaroo rats have a diet like most rats and mice.

Kangaroo rats have a balanced diet of seeds, weeds, worms,

caterpillars, and spiders. Many things eat the kangaroo rats.

Snakes, like pythons, and coyotes are a few examples. The

kangaroo                                        rat uses its

strong back                                     legs to jump

out of the                                      way of

danger. The                                     kangaroo

rat eats lots                                   of amazing

things and lots of things also eat it.

                           Life Cycle

       The Kangaroo rat, like most mammals is born. It does

not hatch                                             out of an

egg.                                                  Kangaroo

rats can                                              live up to

12 years.                                             It takes

them 3                                                years to

become adults. The kangaroo rat stays with its mother until

it is that old. The Kangaroo rat has a fascinating life.

                      Interesting Facts

     Kangaroo rats often use their abilities to do amazing

things.                                           They use

their tail                                        to navigate

their jump                                        and where

they will                                         land. The

Kangaroo                                          rat eats

worms                                             and digs

them out                                          of the

ground using its paws. Kangaroo rats eat spiders and they

jump on them and stamp on them with their powerful back

legs. Kangaroo rats are amazing and they have so many

special abilities.
