Indian Cooking Quest
Length and Location
Immerse yourself in the sights, sounds and spices of India on our unique Indian cooking Quest!
This Quest is offered for two or three weeks throughout the year, and is located in Jaipur, in the
state of Rajasthan. Also called the Pink City, Jaipur was the stronghold of clan rulers whose three
hill forts and series of palaces in the city are important attractions. Known as the Pink City
because of the color of the stone used exclusively in the walled city, Jaipur’s bazaars sell
embroidered leather shoes, blue pottery; tie dyed scarves and other exotic wares.
Project
Sometimes the best way to learn about a culture is through its food. Like many other cultures,
food is an integral part of India’s history, customs, and traditions. The vast subcontinent has
benefitted from numerous cultural, regional, and ethnic influences, and therefore has produced a
diverse, wide ranging, and delicious selection of Indian cuisines. The program brings to light food
in today’s India. From visits to the countryside to experience its distinct cuisine to experience the
popular street kitchen of the urban areas, the program will turn learning about food into a
complete Indian experience. Hands-on and instructional cooking classes, the primary feature of
the program, will include the subjects related to:
History and Origins of Indian food
Varieties of Indian cooking
Indian food ingredients and spices
Food preparation
Indian serving traditions
And of course, eating!
