WAIVER AND RELEASE OF LIABILITY AND
AGREEMENT TO INDEMNIFY AND HOLD HARMLESS
In consideration of entry into and participation in the activities associated with the PASADENA STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL and THE SAN JACINTO DAY FOUNDATION (collectively, the FESTIVAL) and in
recognition of the risk of injury while participating in FESTIVAL activities and as consideration for the right to participate in the activities, I hereby for myself, my heirs, executors, administrators, assigns, or
personal representatives knowingly and voluntarily enter into this WAIVER and RELEASE OF LIABILITY and hereby WAIVE any and all rights, claims, or causes of action of any kind whatsoever arising
out of my participation and do hereby RELEASE and forever discharge THE PASADENA STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL and THE SAN JACINTO DAY FOUNDATION and their affiliates, managers,
members, agents, attorneys, employees, volunteers, heirs, representatives, predecessors, successors and assigns, the event si te and its agents, attorneys, employees, volunteers, heirs, representatives,
predecessors, successors and assigns and all sponsors and/or beneficiaries of the FESTIVAL from any and all liability, claims, demands, damages, actions or causes of action of every kind and character
now existing or which hereinafter may arise as a result of my participation regardless of cause or whether any injury is caused by the sole, joint, comparative, or concurrent negligence or gross negligence
or fault of the FESTIVAL, the negligence or fault of myself or third parties, the conditions of the event site or any other cause.
Further and for the consideration herein described, I agree to INDEMNIFY and HOLD HARMLESS the FESTIVAL against any and all claims, demands, damages, suits or actions of any kind whatsoever
for liability, damages, compensation or otherwise brought y me or anyone on my behalf, including attorneys fees, if litigation arises on account of claims made by me or anyone on my behalf caused by
negligence, gross negligence, negligence per se, strict liability and/or liability under the Deceptive Trade Practices Act or other fault regardless of cause or whether caused by the sole, joint, comparative,
or concurrent negligence, gross negligence or fault of the FESTIVAL, my own fault or the fault of third parties, the conditions of the event site or any other cause. To INDEMNIFY means to assume the
liability in a situation, thereby relieving the other party of responsibility.
I recognize that various photographs, video recordings and/or other media will be taken during the FESTIVAL’s activities. I agree to grant the FESTIVAL full permission to use any photographs, video
recordings, or other media of the FESTIVAL activities that contain my likeness for the purpose of promoting the FESTIVAL or its SPONSORS in any manner deemed appropriate by the FESTIVAL. I
further agree to RELEASE and INDEMNIFY the FESTIVAL for any claims of NEGLIGENCE, GROSS NEGLIGENCE, NEGLIGENCE PER SE, STRICT LIABILITY or LIABILITY under the DECEPTIVE
TRADE PRACTICES ACT or other fault for claims made that relate to any usage of photographs and/or interviews, including but not limited to damages, losses, costs of defense, attorney’s fees and
whether caused by the sole, joint, comparative or concurrent negligence, gross negligence or fault of the FESTIVAL or myself or third parties, the conditions of the event site or any other cause.
I hereby declare that I have read and fully understand this Agreement in its entirety and that, by signing (or clicking) below, I assent to the terms and conditions contain this Agreement.

GENERAL INFORMATION
1. The cook off area has limited spaces with each space being 40’ x 40’.
2. 2011 contestants will have first rights to reserve their same space(s) as in the previous year (2010).
3. The deadline for these entries will be 5:00 pm, March 1, 2011. After March 1st, all spaces can be reserved on a first come,
first serve basis.
4. ABSOLUTELY NO HAY WILL BE ALLOWED. SHAVINGS ARE OKAY. SPACES MUST BE LEFT CLEAN IN
ORDER TO RECEIVE A REFUND!
5. Props, trailers, tents, motor homes, fencing, or any other part of cook off team equipment must not exceed the boundaries of
the assigned space (40’ x 40’).
6. One cooking pit & one self-contained motor home, camper or vehicle will be allowed per space.
7. By City Ordinance, NO animals are permitted on the grounds except for service dogs.
8. Electrical hook ups will be provided at an additional cost of $75.00 for one (1) 30 amp circuit.
a) The (1) 30 amp circuit is a 120 volt, travel trailer receptacle. (Contestants must supply the adapter).
b) Repeated power outages (pulling too many amps) will result in being disconnected permanently.
9. Water is available at no cost to each space. Contestants must supply their own water hoses.
10. The chief cook will be held responsible for the conduct of his/her team and guests.
11. ALL participants AND attendees are REQUIRED to wear appropriate clothing AT ALL TIMES - including shoes &
shirts.
12. No hot coals or heavy trash is to be put in trash barrels or boxes.
13. Persons associated as a member, committee person, director, etc. of the Pasadena Strawberry Festival MAY NOT be listed as
a cook team member.
14. With the exception of wheelchairs for handicapped individuals, no contestant or member of the public will be allowed
to bring golf carts, motor vehicles, carts, bicycles, roller skates, skateboards, or any type of transportation into the
contest area.
15. From midnight to 8:00 am each morning, incoming pedestrian traffic will be restricted to the cook off committee members &
contestants wearing cooks armbands.
16. NO LOUD OR DISRUPTIVE MUSIC WILL BE ALLOWED AFTER 1:00 AM.
17. NO TENT STAKES OR STAKES OF ANY KIND WILL BE ALLOWED.
18. To help with the San Jacinto Day Foundation’s fund raising efforts, all cooking teams are requested to buy at least 5
cases of beer at $25 per case.

COOK OFF RULES & REGULATIONS
Check in times for cook off teams are as follows:
Thursday May 19, 2011 8:00am – 10:00 pm
Friday May 20, 2011 8:00am – 1:00 pm
Check out time for cook off teams is:
Sunday May 22, 2011 30 minutes after awards ceremony
*****Attention ALL COOKERS*****
DURING CHECK IN - NO ONE IS ALLOWED TO PARK ON THE MIDWAY.
THIS AREA IS FOR BOOTH VENDORS ONLY.
1. All cook off participants must enter on Eddie Dansby Blvd. (formerly Cunningham). This is the first entrance
gate off of Fairmont (just east of Red Bluff).
2. Cook off traffic via Eddie Dansby Blvd. will not be accessible after 1:00 pm on Friday May 20th.
3. Until 5:00 pm Thursday - May 19th, ONLY registered cookers may purchase additional tickets from the festival
office for $8 each. Cookers must have the cook team name and space #. After this time, admission tickets may
be purchased at the gate for $10 each.
4. A Head Cooks meeting will be held Monday, May 2nd at 6:30 pm in the rodeo arena. Head cooks or a
representative MUST attend. At this meeting, cooker packets (including arm bands and passes) will be issued.
Each space will receive 8 armbands & 8 admission passes. Additional tickets will also be available for purchase
at the cost of $8 each. NO CHECKS will be accepted.
Beverages:
1. All initial supplies of beer and ice must be brought in during check-in.
2. No alcoholic beverages are to be served to anyone under 21.
3. Liquor in bottles must be kept out of sight.
4. No glass containers allowed.
5. No beer will be allowed onto the grounds after 1:00 pm on Friday May 20th.
6. Due to major sponsor agreements, no other beer distributors or cold drink vendors will be allowed in the cook off
area to sell or advertise their products.
Cooking Spaces:
1. Safety Committee personnel will inspect every team for fire extinguishers.
a. It is mandatory for each cooking space to have a Class ABC Fire Extinguisher!
b. The placement of propane bottles is 3 ft. from an open flame.
c. Fire extinguisher must be mounted in full view and in compliance.
2. Contest areas must remain clean at all times and all trash must be set out in front for pick up.
3. Port-a-cans & motor home services must be rented from Texas Outhouse, the official festival portable
services company, prior to Wednesday, May 18th. For services, go to www.events@texasouthouse.com.

4. All tents must be stabilized barrels; no tent stakes are allowed.
5. Team space numbers should be placed at or near the booth entrance and remain visible at all times.

Cooks Meeting:
1. Friday, May 20th, 9:00 am in the rodeo arena.
2. Containers will be distributed at this meeting.
3. Cook’s Choice time slots will be assigned.
Meat Entry Rules:
1. Inspection and tagging of briskets will begin at 9:00 am Saturday, May 21st.
2. Only two (2) briskets per pit, per space will be allowed to be tagged.
3. Only one (1) of the tagged briskets (per space) may be submitted for judging.
a) Cuts from two (2) different briskets for submission, is not allowed.
b) No garnishing of brisket entry is allowed.
4. All competition meat entries must be cooked on separate pits.
5. Fires must be wood or wood substances; no electric or gas fires are allowed.
6. Contestants must cook their own entries. Pre-cooked, salted, seasoned, or marinated meat is NOT
allowed.
Judging:
Judging is in Campbell Hall (look for signage). Entries will not be accepted anywhere else.

Notes:
With the exception of brisket, cook teams are responsible for turning in their entries 15 minutes prior to the start
of judging time.
Brisket pick up will begin at 12:00 pm (noon) on Sunday – May 22nd .
Hospitality and Showmanship judging will be on Saturday – May 21st, between 2:00 pm and 6:00 pm.

Awards Presentation: 3:00 pm Sunday, May 22nd
The awards presentation will be in the rodeo arena.
Only one person should report to the verification table with the winning ticket.
Group photos will be taken - please have your team together and ready.
1st through 3rd place trophies will be awarded for:
Cooks Choice
Gumbo
Fajitas
Margaritas
Showmanship categories
Brisket: 1st through 10th place trophies will be awarded
First place Brisket winner will receive $300.00, paid entry for the 2012 Strawberry
Festival Cook off, and a trophy.
Second Place Brisket winner will receive $200.00 and a trophy.
Third Place Brisket winner will receive $100.00 and a trophy.
Ribs:
First Place Ribs winner will receive $150 plus a trophy.
Second Place Ribs winner will receive $100 plus a trophy.
Third Place Ribs winner will receive $50 plus a trophy.
Trophies will also be awarded for Hospitality and the Cleanest Area.
WITH REGARD TO ALL ASPECTS OF THE COOK OFF, DECISIONS MADE BY THE SAN
JACINTO DAY FOUNDATION AND STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL ARE FINAL!!

MOVE – OUT: Sunday - May 22nd - 30 minutes after awards end.
Tear down should not begin until AFTER brisket pick up.
Space number signs should remain visible at all times.
As a safety precaution ALL cook off traffic should exit Eddie Dansby
Blvd. NO EXCEPTIONS!!!
Before leaving the fairgrounds, have a Team Rep inspect your space for deposit return.
