Velocity /Acceleration Lab
3. Height of wooden board in cm ______._______cm
4. Calculations: Make sure to write equation used and show all work for each calculation
of velocity .( ex. 25cm – 0 cm / .56 s – 0 cm) There will be 8 calculations.
You must show work for credit!!
5. Construct a data chart with 4 columns for the car . Do the same for the cart.
Label the charts (CAR or CART). The column labels are :
Distance (cm) / Time (s)/ Δ time (s) / Velocity (cm/s)
6. On graph paper, graph distance vs time for cart and car. Use blue for Cart and red for
Car.
In the same manner, graph velocity vs time for cart and car.
Answer the following (typed double-spaced) in complete sentences.
1. Compare the velocities of the car and cart at the beginning and at the end of the chase.
Write a verbal description.
2. At any time during the chase, did the car and cart have the same velocity? If so, mark
these points on the graph
3. Compare the average velocity of the police cart to that of the car. Show calculations for
each. Remember that average velocity is the total displacement divided by total time
for the trip.
4. Should average speed of the cart and car be the same as the average velocity of the cart
and car. Explain why or why not?
5. Which of the two, cart or car, should have acceleration? Why?
