Viking it and Liking It by Jon Scieszka
1. What were the boys reciting when they were warped? The word Thursday.
2. Where did the Vikings come from? Greenland
3. What did they call North America? Vinland
4. What was Bullshik's job? Official poet for Leif Ericcson
5. In order to warp home what did they need to do? Find the Book that was blue with
silver letters
6. Who was shooting arrows at them? Indians in canoes
7. Why did they want to throw the boys overboard? There was not enough food, water,
or space in the longboat.
8. How did the boys stop the Vikings from throwing them overboard? They said that
they knew magic and did a trick.
9. What was the magic trick that Joe did? He made a large Viking lift him up and then
by moving his arms forward had them try to do it again, but they couldn't. (He
changed his center of gravity)
10. How did everyone escape from Leif's cousin Grim and his crew? Joe did another
magic trick and while he was distracting the men, a knife was passed around so that
everyone could cut their ropes and free themselves.
11. What was Grim and his crew's punishment? Leif put them back on their longboat
without their weapons. They were now known as cowards.
12. What was the knife's name (the one that was passed around to free everyone)?
Snake-biter
13. What was written on the runestone? Joe, Sam, and Fred were here with Leif
Eriksson and his men.
14. How did the reading of the rune stone change their lives? Since the rune is the way
that the Vikings wrote, this was the "stone" and the boys returned home.
