UNIVERSITY ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEST
For the attention of international students whose first language is not English
Requirement
This test is a compulsory requirement of the University Senate for all new students
whose first language is not English. Students should attend one of the test sessions
shown below.
Purpose
The purpose of the test is to identify students who may need language support during
their studies and to offer them courses during the academic year as part of the
University’s services for international students. For further information, see:

Exemption
Exemption from the test is granted only to: (i) those whose first language is English
(this is understood to include those students whose entire education has been
through the medium of English); (ii) those who have completed other courses of
study within the University of Leeds or who have a first degree from a university in
the UK, the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand or English-speaking countries in
the Caribbean; (iii)those who have lived in Britain for at least 5 years.

The Rupert Beckett Lecture Theatre is on the lower ground floor of the Michael
Sadler Building (78 on the Campus Guide).
The Roger Stevens Lecture Theatres are in the Roger Stevens Building (89 on the
Campus Guide).
The Chemistry West Block Lecture Theatre is in the Chemistry Building (55A on the
Campus Guide).
Please bring your student registration card to the test.
