T he A r tists
The 2011 Sausalito Art Festival will showcase a prized collection created by 275 artists from
across the U.S. and around the world, with 33 states represented and artists from countries spanning
Zimbabwe, Israel, South Africa, the U.K., Ecuador, Columbia, Canada and Mexico. The Festival
features a combination of classically trained and self-taught artists, those guided by theories as well as
those who paint straight from the heart. This year’s Festival features nearly 100 artists new to the
Sausalito Art Festival -- many of whom are favorites on the national art festival circuit. More than
$15,000 in prizes will be awarded to presenting artists at the 2011 Sausalito Art Festival.
Fine artists showing at the 2011 Festival include: sculptor R ober to Santo of Sonoma County
and Italy, who draws from the tradition of the great artists of the Renaissance to create compelling
figurative sculptures in marble and bronze; M ar ne J aye of Novato (oil painting), whose work was
featured at the high-wattage 2011 Academy Awards Red Carpet Lounge and the MTV Movie Awards
Red Carpet Lounge; M imi Damr auer of Chicago, IL (fiber art), whose exquisite home decor is featured
at Crate + Barrel and at top fine art festivals across the country; B en J oyce of Spokane, WA
(multimedia), whose contemporary works of landscape art are part of noteworthy collections in London,
New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Coeur d’Alene, Miami and Palm Desert, to name a few; Star r
H agenbr ing of New York, NY, regaled nationwide for her couture designs featuring hand-painted
images and hand-stitched embellishments, designed to reveal one-of-a-kind nuances through movement
and 360-degree viewing; G abr ielle M oor e-G or don of Sausalito, inspired by the wilds of Africa to paint
striking watercolor portraits of life and nature; K ate B ishop of Petaluma, whose elegantly eccentric
handmade hats and flowers are a Festival favorite; sculptor R ober to G utier r ez of Glendale, AZ, a
sculptor of international repute, frequently depicting the human form in bronze, plaster and stone; and
C hr is R ober ts-A ntieu of Manchester, MI, whose eye-catching “fabric paintings” -- composed from
freehand-cut cloth shapes and hung behind glass in hand-painted frames -- have been seen at the
Sausalito Art Festival and at fine folk art galleries across the country, as well as in O magazine.

Sausalito A r t F estival’ s “ F r iday Night Opening Par ty” – F r iday, September 2
Sausalito Art Festival’s traditional opening celebration takes on a fresh new look this year, as the
“Friday Night Opening Party” climbs aboard an elegant Hornblower Yacht docked at the Festival
grounds. Guests are invited to meet and mingle among the Festival’s outstanding artists while enjoying
drinks and hors d’oeurves, music on two levels, and Sausalito’s stunning waterfront scenery as the sun
sets over the Bay Area. Tickets are limited to this very special event and will be available for purchase
via www.sausalitoartfestival.org beginning August 1st.
“ T he B eautiful B r ain: Neur oscience I mages as A r t”
This year’s Special Photography Exhibit at the Festival is “The Beautiful Brain: Neuroscience
Images as Art.” Produced in cooperation with swissnex, San Francisco, the gallery show will display
dramatic photos of the microscopic architecture of brain tissue taken by modern research scientists
engaged in understanding the fundamental structure and functions of the mind. The forms, textures, and
colors of the images are grounded in science, yet the experience of seeing them is like discovering a
major new genre of modern art.
