Objectives
• To increase the child’s skills and confidence in
those developmental areas identified as a
priority by the child’s parents and therapists;
• To increase the capacity of parents to address
their child’s developmental needs;
• To contribute to the child’s readiness for, and
transition to, school or other educational
setting (eg. 3 year old kindy or child care);
• To provide therapy support for children on
waiting lists or unable to access services; and
• To link the child and their family into other
community support services.
Strategies
• Parent education sessions (eg: on language
development, challenging behaviour);
• Involvement of child’s therapists, who can model
therapy techniques specific to the child;
• Offering play activities which help parents and
children practise new skills; and
• Provide social supports for families, linking
parents with each other and into community
services.
