Suggestions for Using this Coloring Book
This is a multipurpose coloring book. It is designed not only for coloring
but also for teaching the alphabet, practicing writing, learning Spanish
and English words, and learning a little Ozark history.
Each of the coloring pages includes a letter of the alphabet, the name of
the object in Spanish and English, and lines for practicing handwriting.
After the alphabetical coloring page, there is a page labeled
“Historical Information.” On this page you will find a short paragraph
about the local history of each object in Spanish and English.
You are invited to make copies of the coloring pages to use for
educational purposes. You may print a copy of each drawing and have
students practice writing on the blank lines. As you have students color
the object, you may want to read to them the history found in the back of
the book.
We hope you enjoy this coloring book!

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Shiloh
The early settlers to this area called their town Shiloh. It was a small town with a
few businesses and a church. Today the Shiloh Museum is located on the original
town center. When the people of Shiloh wanted to open a post office they found out
there was already another town in Arkansas called Shiloh. They had to change the
name, so they chose Springdale because of the town’s many springs.
Shiloh
Located in downtown Springdale, Arkansas, the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History
is a regional history museum focusing on the history of six Northwest Arkansas
counties: Washington, Benton, Carroll, Madison, Boone, and Newton. The museum
takes its name from the pioneer community of Shiloh, which became Springdale in
the 1870s.
Most of what you’ll see at the museum highlights the everyday men, women, and
children who lived in our towns and rural communities. We tell their stories through
a variety of exhibits on native peoples, pioneers, notable folks, and events that
shaped our history.
Along with exhibits, you can explore six historic buildings on the museum grounds—
a log cabin, outhouse, barn, general store, doctor’s office, and town home of the
1940s. Shaded walking paths, gardens, and picnic tables offer a chance to relax
and remember a time when life moved at a slower pace.
The Shiloh Museum also houses an active research library with an extensive
collection of more than 700,000 photographs of Ozark life. We offer programs,
lectures, and changing exhibits on a variety of regional history topics. Our website
provides information and podcasts to virtual visitors everywhere. The Museum is a
free educational resource for local schools and teachers. Located less than three
miles from the interstate, it is not far off the beaten path.
