Greetings to all!
The time has come to nominate your top students for the Minnesota State University,
Mankato Honor Band/Honor Jazz Band to be held Friday, January 20, 2012 on the
campus of Minnesota State, Mankato. This year we will host both a 10-12 Honor Band
and a 10-12 Honor Jazz Band. The ensembles will rehearse much of the day and will
perform a concert in Halling Recital Hall in the Performing Arts Center at 3:30 that
afternoon.
Conductors
The 10-12 Honor Band will include approximately 80 musicians and will be conducted
by Dr. Amy Roisum-Foley, MSU Director of Bands and the 10-12 Honor Jazz Band
will be directed by Dr. Douglas Snapp, MSU Director of Jazz Studies and Artistic
Director of the JazzMN Orchestra in the Twin Cities.
Student Nominations
Enclosed you will find a band nomination form for up to seven students and a jazz
nomination form for up to four students. Please rank your students based upon your own
criteria. Make sure you list each student’s full name and their specific instrument, i.e.,
Alto Saxophone, Bass Clarinet, Treble Clef Baritone, and areas of strength for your
percussionists. We will send out one copy of each selection of music for each student
approximately six weeks prior to the event. Please take a moment or two to go over the
music before the students come on campus. Every school that sends a nomination form
will be represented on stage. It is possible that we will not be able to have representation
for each school in the Honors Jazz Band.
Please note instructions regarding nominations for Honor Jazz Band Saxophone
and Rhythm Section students on the form.
Inclement Weather
Make sure your students clear the entire day for rehearsals and performance. If a conflict
should develop, notify me immediately so that I might contact an alternate nominee. If
there is inclement weather on the day of the event, all ensemble directors will be notified
by 6:00 am via cell phone and email. You can also tune in to Channel 4, WCCO
television or AM 830, WCCO radio by 6:00 a.m. for any cancellations or postponement.

Cost
The cost of registration is $25 per student for each of the honor bands. Students will
receive a certificate, lunch on campus, a cookie reception following the concert, and the
musical services of the conductors. The concert is free of charge.
Registration Deadlines
Please note that the deadline for 10-12 Honor Band/Jazz Band nominations is November
1st. You can mail or email your nominations. You will receive an email notification upon
receipt of your nomination form and the parts will be mailed out on December 1, 2011. If
you have not received confirmation by mid-November, please contact us. If you have any
questions, please do not hesitate to call me or send me an email message. I am looking

Teacher Workshops
Minnesota State University, Mankato music faculty will be providing mini-sessions that
will count toward continuing education clock hours. Each teacher who takes part in these
workshops will receive a certificate for your time. Please take a moment to send me a
message including topics of interest. These workshops will be provided free-of-charge.
