Mississauga Festival Choir – Membership Guidelines – 2010/11
Welcome to the MFC!
Thank you for becoming a member of the Mississauga Festival Choir (MFC). The MFC was founded in 1984
during the 10th Anniversary celebrations of the City of Mississauga. We are an adult community choir that
rehearses and performs a variety of concerts and events each season in the Mississauga area. Our primary
concerts in December and May are held at the Living Arts Centre and feature a wide range of musical styles
The choir is a registered Canadian charity and is governed by a Board of Directors. During the course of the
year, you will meet the directors who make up the leadership team along with MFC staff. Our Artistic
Director is David Ambrose, our accompanist is Andrea Grant and our Choir Administrator is Colwyn Ward.

How to Become a Member
MFC Membership is open to any individual who applies to be a member and pays the membership fees,
subject to the discretion of the Artistic Director. As a member of MFC, you are eligible to vote at Annual and
The membership fees are reviewed and determined by the Board. For the 2010/11 Season, fees are $100 per
session. The first session runs from September to December and the second session runs from January to
May. No members will be accepted after the second rehearsal of each session. Membership fees will not be
refunded after the second rehearsal.
Generally, rehearsals run from September to May with a break over the December Holidays on Mondays
from 7.30 to 9.30pm. There are no rehearsals on Labour Day, Thanksgiving, Easter Monday or Victoria Day.
All rehearsals, unless otherwise announced, take place at the Mississauga Seniors Centre, 1389 Cawthra
Road, just south of the QEW. The chamber choir is an auditioned ensemble. If you are interested in
participating in the chamber choir, you may be required to attend additional rehearsals.
At the beginning of every rehearsal, please stop by the front table and sign the attendance sheet. You are
strongly encouraged to discuss any absences with your section representative, especially planned absences of
two consecutive weeks or more. As rehearsals are meant to help you and your fellow choir members prepare
to perform, you may not be allowed to perform in a primary concert if you miss more than ¼ of the
rehearsal period. Again, please speak to your section representative!
In addition to our primary concerts in December and May at the Living Arts Centre and our Festival of
Friends in February at Eden United Church, the MFC also participates in various community performances,
concert tours and choir festivals. For all performances, our members must have their music in a black folder.
Please also consider other members’ allergies and refrain from wearing odorous perfumes or colognes.
Scent-free deodorant, however, is highly recommended!

What to Wear
As a member of MFC, you will be provided with performance attire that is on loan and remains the
property of MFC. Here is a list of what is provided and what you need to obtain:

To receive your performance attire, a $50 deposit is required. Your deposit will be refunded if the
performance attire is returned in good condition. We also request that you dry clean your performance attire
periodically to maintain its good condition. If you are not attending a session then you may be required to
return your performance attire and your deposit will be refunded due to shortage of attires. You may not
receive the same attire at the next session. If you have any further questions about the attire, please contact
Beth Hawley, Performance Attire Coordinator, at 905-567-0650.
Similar to the performance attire, all sheet music is on loan and remains the property of MFC. Once you
have paid your membership fees, you will be provided with sheet music for the upcoming concert. Following
the concert, all music must be returned at the time and place to be determined by our librarian, Heather
Sholdice, usually the Monday following a concert. Please take care of your sheet music; use soft pencil to
mark your score and erase those markings when you return your music. Do not use any pens or highlighters!
If music is lost or damaged, members are responsible for the replacement or repair costs. If you have any

As a member of the MFC, you are also an important stakeholder in our choir’s success! Your commitment to
MFC’s concerts, ticket sales and fundraising endeavours is rewarded with sold-out concerts and a strong
financial foundation for the organization. Throughout the year, Board and staff members will explain how
you can make a difference!
We Protect Your Privacy
As a member of MFC, we will always ask your permission to collect or use your personal information, such
as your name, address, phone number and email address. The choir will never disclose or sell personal
information to any third party organizations. Your personal information is mainly used for charitable tax
receipting, internal communications, retrieval of performance attire or sheet music, and fundraising research.
Only MFC Board, staff and volunteers have access to your personal information in order to complete their
