SECTION E: OUTCOMES
(To be completed by the External Examiner)
Please do not mention staff or students by name

Q1 Please comment on the strengths and weaknesses of students.

The students’ work is similar to the standard seen post registration assignments in my
institution. Some of the work was descriptive but this was reflected in the marks awarded by
the internal markers. Students often struggle to move to a higher academic level, particularly
where the student has not embarked on academic work for some time. However as I have
commented above, the feedback from the internal marker was clear and supportive which
should aid future work.

From the Management of Pain elective unit here was one interesting and enthusiastic
assignment on smoking and pain relief however the argument deviated from the assignment
brief which was reflected in the mark awarded.

Q2 Please comment on the quality of knowledge and skills (general and subject specific)
      demonstrated by the students.
The work was of a comparative standard seen in my and other institutions.

Q3 Are the learning outcomes aligned appropriately with the Framework for Higher
       Education Qualifications (FHEQ)?

      YES  NO
Please elaborate, particularly if you marked the ‘NO’ box:

      YES  NO
Please elaborate, particularly if you marked the ‘NO’ box:

Yes for those who successfully completed their assessment

Q5 Please comment on what you infer about the quality of teaching, learning and
assessment methods as indicated by student performance.

A I have only externally examined a few scripts it is difficult to make such inferences however
the assessment methods were appropriate and certainly the student feedback provided by the
internal markers were of a high standard

Q6 Do the outcomes of assessments suggest implications for the curriculum, subject
       syllabuses or teaching methods?

       YES NO 
Please elaborate, particularly if you marked the ‘YES’ box:

Q7 From your engagement with the programme are you able to confirm that the standards

        YES  NO
If ‘NO’ please elaborate:

Q8 Are you able to confirm that the student performance is comparable with similar
programmes or subjects at this level offered in other UK higher education institutions
