                                  OUR VIEW
                  Halloween Safety
Halloween, one of the largest holidays of the year, at least for our chil-
dren, is right around the corner. Glennville will hold their Annual Trick or
Treat Night on Thursday, October 28, followed by Cobbtown, Collins and
Reidsville on Saturday, October 30. And why wouldn’t children love
Halloween? After all, it is an opportunity to dress up in all kinds of out-
landish costumes as well as get lots of free candy!
To avoid mishaps many communities have instituted Halloween
Carnivals and other activities to replace traditional Trick or Treat activities.
Other communities, such as Reidsville, have participation in the downtown
area by local businesses and churches to ensure it is a safe night.
If your children are going to be out on Halloween in a traditional “Trick
or Treat” sense, following are some important tips for them:
Never, ever go into a stranger’s house or even ring their doorbell for treats
unless your parents are with and say that it is okay. Always make sure your
mom or dad is in sight when you go out trick-or-treating.
Be careful when you cross a street. Make sure to look in both directions
and make sure there are no cars coming. If you have a little brother or sis-
ter with you, take their hand and help them get across the street, too. If the
street has a stop light, wait until the cross walk light tell you that it is okay
to cross now, but still double check before you cross by looking both ways.
If you are an older kid or a young teen, and are going out with friends, make
sure your parents know where you are going and whom you are going with.
If your parents give you a curfew, be home when they say. It builds trust
between you and them and they are doing it for your own safety. If you are
going to be late, call them and let them know.
Never vandalize homes or property belonging to others. This can lead to
arrest and punishment as a juvenile.
Hurting animals is never acceptable behavior! Some people use THEIR VIEW

Trick or treating is now different from decades ago. Many city streets are Sometimes It’s The Little Things
