REPTON PARISH COUNCIL - BURIAL GROUND REGULATIONS
MONSOM LANE, REPTON
1. When a person purchases ‘the Exclusive Right of Burial’ or a ‘Grant of Exclusive
Right’, they do not purchase the land itself, only the right to be buried or to
arrange for the burial of someone else in that particular grave. The purchaser is
referred to as ‘the grant-owner’.
2. Purchasing the Exclusive Right of Burial means that no one, apart from the grant-
owner, may be buried in the grave without the grant-owner’s consent.
3. It is recommended that a monument be not erected on a grave for at least six
months after interment.
4. An application showing accurate drawings/specifications must be made to the
Parish Council prior to the erection of any monument on a grave, and the
relevant fee paid to the Clerk.
5. No monument shall be altered or interfered with after it has been erected, without
the permission of the Parish Council.
6. Monument sizes:
i) Monuments and vases only are permitted.
ii) The overall height of the monument must not exceed three feet.
iii) Vases shall not exceed ten inches diameter on a square base and
eight inches in height.
iv) Plaques on graves containing cremated remains are to be set into the
ground and not raised, to allow for easier maintenance of the grass.
7. All monuments shall be kept in good repair at the expense of the owner of the
exclusive right of burial in the grave. The Parish Council reserves the right to
remove any monument that in its opinion has become unsafe, dilapidated or
unsightly, or is not kept in good repair. A letter shall be sent to the grant- owner
requesting the removal of the monument within 14 days after which time the
Parish Council will undertake the work.
8. The re-turfing or re-seeding of graves is only to be carried out by the Parish
Council representatives.
9. No trees or shrubs or other planting shall be permitted without the written
consent of the Parish Council.
10. Unsightly ornaments, glass bottles, jugs, jars etc. will not be permitted on graves.
