YOU ARE MY HIDING PLACE
God of the seasons, there is a time for everything; there is a time for dying and a time for rising. We need
courage to enter into the changes in our lives.
God of autumn, the trees are saying good-bye to their green leaves, letting go of what has been. We, too,
have our moments of surrender, with all their insecurity and risk. Help us let go when we need to do so.
God of fallen leaves lying in coloured patterns on the ground,
help us to realize that our lives each have their own patterns.
As we see our patterns of growth and changes, let us embrace
the quiet still nights.
God of misty days and harvest moon nights, there is always a
part of our lives that remain a mystery. We need to see your
power-filled presence in our lives. May we gain strength
through knowing You are always here.
God of harvest wagons and fields full of golden grains, many
gifts lie within us. Many of these gifts are still to be harvested.
Help us to gather our strength and bravery and share our
talents with others.
God of wide open fields and crops that have faltered, let us know that we will be alright when things do not
go exactly as planned. Help us to know that we must wait in faith and hope for goodness to come. Grant
us patience when we do not see the blessings.
God of geese going south for another season, Your wisdom enables us to know what needs to be carried
forward and what needs to be left behind. We yearn for Your insight and vision in our lives.
God of flowers touched with frost and windows wearing white designs, may Your Love keep us from
growing cold and empty in the changing seasons of our lives.
God of life, You believe in us. You enrich us. You entrust us with the freedom to choose life. For all this
we are grateful
Congratulations to all staff and students on a great beginning to the 2011-2012 school year.

A big thank you goes out to last year’s School Council who organized and set-up the “Meet the Staff” B.B.Q. with its

PEANUTS / NUT ALLERGIES
We have a significant number of students in our school who have allergies to peanuts and nuts.
Some of these students suffer an anaphylaxis reaction when they smell peanuts or simply touch
something or someone with peanut residue. Anaphylaxis is a serious reaction that can be deadly.
We ask that you do not send your child to school with peanut or nut products whether in their
lunch or in a snack. The safety of all students can only be achieved if we work collaboratively to
avoid an unsafe situation.

DID YOU KNOW
The ILC Homework Help website located at http://homeworkhelp.ilc.org is designed to enhance students’ learning
skills and contribute to academic success in math. This project forcuses on providing on-line math assistance to
students in Grades 7, 8 and 9. The key features of the website contain interactive tutorials, examples, exercises
and EQAO test preparation. The site also includes the Ask a Teacher one-on-one tutoring, available only after
school from 6:00-8:00 P.M. from Sunday to Thursday, and is designed to help students with their homework.
Parents can also register as guests but cannot participate in the chat sessions. This is a full monitored site with
several protective measures where students remain safe and anonymous and can return to the site as often as
they need. All grade 7, 8 and grade 9 math classes have registered using their Ontario Education Number and
have had an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the environment.
We welcome Mrs. C. Root as our Integrated Arts teacher. She will be teaching Music,
Drama and Dance.
As you know, the Hamilton Wentworth Catholic Distric t School Board has a mandatory school uniform which
consists of navy blue docker style pants or shorts and a white or blue golf shirt. Just a gentle reminder that cargo
pants/shorts or yoga pants are not uniform pieces. Tops must have either the school crest and be either
embroidered or crested.
St. Vincent de Paul’s Green Team thanks you for helping to save our environment. Our main goal this year is to
reduce the amont of garbage that we throw out!
Here are some of our projects:
1. Litterless Lunch Thursday. Students and Staff are encouraged to pack lunches in reusable containers
instead of food wraps. Consider doing this everyday, but our Green Team will check on Thursdays.
2. We have Green Bins to collect food scraps and paper towels! This is a new program for our school. More
information will be coming in the next couple of weeks.
3. We have a gardening team lead by 2 parent volunteers. A fall project is to clean up the garden beds and
plant spring bulbs. We are asking the school community to donate bulbs for planting. We hope you can
support us. We are planting 3 threes in the playground to provide shade to help reduce rain water runoff
into the sewers and our lake. Please help to protect these young trees!
4. October 5 is Active Transportation Day. Wear yellow and walk, bike, roller blade to school on this day!
Foster Homes Foster Hope! Give the gift of love, become a foster parent. Upcoming information night will be
