Duran Duran: Notorious: The
Biography by Steve Malins
Good Read
In the last couple of year s, Duran Duran has scooped MTV’s Lifetime
Achievement Award, played sold-out stadium gigs in America, Britain, and
Japan, and enjoyed feature coverage in Rolling Stone and Vogue. Not bad
for a band who were at the height of their fame in the 1980s. This
reference offers a look at their remarkable career, including exclusive
interviews and photos.
For folks who didnt grow up with Duran Duran, this book tells the history
that the hysterical fans know by heart. And some of us hysterical fans get
that exciting trip down Memory Lane, too. I enjoyed the book not because
it was well-written, but because it was about a band that set the music
industry to right. Every inside joke made me laugh. And, yes, John Taylor
is as hot as Rio asphalt, isnt he? Dont think thats going to change anytime
soon...
Its a great book to pick up and check out the New Romantic music scene
not just from Duran Durans perspective, but from the journalists, from the
clothing designers, from the deejays, from the photographers, etc. Folks
who were paying attention to what was phat, fab and fantastic get quoted
here, and its nice to sit down and spend an afternoon or evening
immersing yourself in their reminiscences. I enjoyed it, anyway.
From Sandy Lender, Some days, I just want the dragon to win.
