FTP Inventory files to the SDLN ALEPH Server
A script will place any file that arrives on our ftp server for inventory to the appropriate directory
on the production server: Apollo (/alephe/scratch/). Once you send the file via ftp the script is
set to run every 30 minutes Monday through Friday between the hours of 7am and 7pm CT.
Your file must be moved from the system (alephe) scratch directory, to your ADM library
scratch directory. There is a service in ALEPH which will perform this function.
You must do the following:
Save your file of barcodes to your c:\ drive – check your c:\prompt to see which
directory you need to save the file to (see below)
ftp the file to SDLN
Move the file to your ADM library
First, go to your Start menu, choose All programs, Accessories, Command prompt
1
At the c:\> prompt, note the directory (this one is Documents and Settings\nmentzel)
you will need to save your file of barcodes from your scanner to this directory
To do this, wth your file of barcodes open, click Save as, then choose the appropriate
location on your c: drive:
Name your file, using only lower case letters and no spaces, click Save.
2
Once your file is saved, you must ftp the file to SDLN:
Open a COMMAND PROMPT window (see above)
At the c:\> prompt, type: ftp themis.sdln.net and press Enter
At User <themis.sdln.net:<none>>: type: inventory and press Enter
Password: type: ge#6wuGe (you will NOT see the characters) and press Enter
At ftp> type: bin and press Enter
At ftp> type: put your file name (example: put test_inventory.txt) and press Enter
At ftp> type: bye

After transferring the file to the production server, it needs to be moved to the scratch
directory of your library so the ALEPH processes can read it.
Remember: wait at least thirty minutes between ftp and transfer of your file.
In the ALEPH GUI Client, open the CATALOGING module, then, go to Services/Items/Move
inventory file to input directory:
Filename is the name of the file of barcodes you ftp’d to the server
Your ADM (lower case) is your 3 letter library code followed by 50 (example tst50)
Click Submit.
4
Once the service is submitted, go to your Task Manager, Batch log and check to see that the
job has ended:
Now you can continue with the inventory services. See the Inventory Management document.
