How to complete your Business Checklist
The Business Administration Student Checklist is the student’s tool for tracking
their progress through the Business program. Each quarter, you should update your
grades and credits requirements and bring it with you to each advising appointment. The
following is detailed instructions on how to complete the checklist.
Business Requirements – Core and Major
As you complete each requirement fill in your grade (and credits if you wish). If
you had a transfer class equivalency, write it underneath the EWU class. (See Example
Business Checklist for students with transfer classes) Under Mgmt 490 where it says it
says ‘Major’, list the specific classes required for your major. List the required class(es)
and only approved electives that you have taken or plan on taking. If you have more than
one major, you can list both here or list it on the back of the form. You can find the flow
charts for the Business Core and your major(s) on the College of Business Advising web
site.
University Requirements
Listed below is what is covered by certain prior degrees.
Approved Direct Transfer Degree - Everything from Cpla 100 through the last
Natural Science.
Previous Bachelor’s Degree - Everything from Cpla through International
Studies.
Transfer classes: when transferring without one of the degrees above, the University will
evaluate your transfer classes on a class-by-class basis. You will receive a ‘General
Education Requirements/Evaluation of Transfer Work’ from the University that will
show what EWU requirements have been fulfilled by classes you have taken elsewhere.
These are listed by Humanities & Fine Arts List 1, 2, etc. and are in the same order as the
list on your Business Checklist. You list the classes in the same spot on the Business
Checklist as they are on your GER Evaluation including Cultural and Gender Diversity
and International Studies.
EWU classes: when using EWU classes to fulfill your General Education Requirements
(GERs), you can find the approved GERs in the front of any quarterly course
announcement. They are listed by category (Humanities & Fine Arts, Social Science,
etc.) then list (1,2,3). Example: Engl 170 = Humanities & Fine Arts, List 1. You then
list them on the Business Checklist in the appropriate list. The approved classes for
Cultural and Gender Diversity and International Studies are usually listed on the page
directly after the GERs.
Credit Requirements
180 Total Credits
Notice that there are 2 sets of lines in this column, the one on the left is for the
school or quarter and the one on the right is for the number of credits earned. If you have
transfer credits, list the total number of accepted credits here. For example: SCC, 90.
Now, start with the first quarter you attended Eastern Washington University:
Winter ’04, 12. If you have repeated a class, the credits can only be counted once. When
looking at your transcripts on EagleNet, you will use the Earned Hours, (EHRS) for each
quarter as your official credit count.
60 Upper Division Credits
Upper division credits are ANY credits that are 300 or 400 level. For example:
Engl 380 is upper division, Econ 100 isn’t. List these the same way you did Total credits
starting with the first quarter you completed an upper division credit. (Winter ’04, 12.)
There are no upper division credits from Community Colleges. If you attended a
University prior to transferring to Eastern, your Evaluation of Transfer Credits will show
if you had any transferable upper division credits.
90 Non-Business Credits
Non-Business credits are any class that is not business related or offered by a
Business Program. You can use 9 credits of Business Statistics (DSCI) and 13.5 credits
of Economics toward this total. The easiest way to count these credits is to go through
your EWU transcripts quarter by quarter. Some examples of classes that are non-
business: CMST, ENGL, MATH, HIST, AAST, PLAN, VOED, etc. You must have
earned credits in the class for it to count for non-business. If you had transfer credits, the
easiest way is to add up the non-business credits by school. (SCC, 83)
Example:
When looking at your transcripts on EagleNet, they look something like this:
-----------------------WINTER 2001-----------------------------------------------------
ACCT-302-40 MANAGEMENT ACCOUNTING 3.7 4.00 14.80
ADST-301-30 ALCOHOL/DRUG PHYS & PHAR 3.2 4.00 12.80 (non-bus.)
MISC-311-40 INFO. TECHNOLOGY IN BUS 3.6 4.00 14.40
MKTG-312-40 BUYER BEHAVIOR 3.5 4.00 14.00
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
AHRS EHRS QHRS QPTS GPA
Current 16.00 16.00 16.00 56.00 3.500
This student had 16 earned hours toward their 180 total, 16 Upper Division credits and 4
Non-Business credits.
Please refer to this instruction sheet and the examples to
successfully complete your Application for Admission and
Business Checklist. Remember, both must be turned in before
your application can be processed.
