The API 6A Appendix F PR2 qualification test is undoubtedly the most widespread, combining both the effects of

pressure (P), and temperature (T).

Note: if the design changes, the test must be re-conducted.

There are different types of temperature cycles in addition to the operation cycles. The operating cycles are typically

200, including those at high and low pressure.

To extend the validity of the qualification PR2 to similar components, one can apply the concept of scaling –

dimensionally and by pressure class, in accordance with API 6A.

BEND TESTING

The bending test is a test applying a bending moment to the body by connecting bands on the transition pieces.

The bands are connected to pistons, which exert forces resulting in a bending moment being applied to the valve.

The tests can vary greatly depending on the product being tested.

The bending rate on the valve is calculated based on the pressure inside the cylinders. Typically this test is

performed along the plane more critical to the seals.

The critical plane is determined by the FEA; the effects are estimated by the FEA and verified with the deformation

measured in testing using strain gauges.

CRYOGENIC

PetrolValves designs and manufactures cryogenic ball, gate, globe and check valves. We have a special test area

dedicated to perform full cryogenic testing at – 196°C using liquid nitrogen, without any limitation to valve size and / or

pressure class.

The special equipment lowers the valve temperature from the external surface, submerging the valve in a liquid

nitrogen bath, or injecting and pressurising liquid nitrogen inside the valve, simulating the operating conditions.
In addition, we have dedicated clean area for the assembling and the examination of the valves for special services

(Oxygen and Hydrogen service).

Considering the extreme hazardous nature of the test media, this dedicated area is equipped with special safety

protection and a network of sensors which maintain constant control of the atmosphere.

ENDURANCE

Endurance testing includes 1000 operating cycles at ambient conditions. Additional cyclic testing may be conducted

in accordance with client specifications.

FIRE TESTING

The test consists of subjecting valves to a flame of specific thermal power (eg jet fire) for a specified period (typically

30 or 120 minutes). The integrity of the component at the end of the test indicates that the test itself has been

passed. The relevant governing specification is the API6FA.

In order to provide the maximum safety conditions, the wide range of PetrolValves production is of fire safe design.

The validation of the fire safe design is guaranteed through continuous qualification tests performed in a special test

rig designed according to BS 6755 part. 1 specifications, equipped with computerized control systems.

The various fire safe tests are conducted by special trained personnel and witnessed by Third Party inspectors

according to the most recognized international standard specifications:

API 6FA

API 609

BS 6755.

HYDROSTATIC

N°11 test benches are suitable for hydrostatic and gas testing for valves from ½” to 80”, and pressure classes to

ANSI 4500 // API 15,000 without limitations in term of end connections.

Each test Bench is designed with suitable protections (bunker type) and equipped with a dedicated control panel

which allows the operator to conduct the test without entering in the test bench area.

All operators are fully trained and experienced to perform all types of test required by the main test specifications (API

6A, API 6D, API 598, ISO 14313, BS 6755, ….).

All benches are also equipped with a dedicated computerized data system with wireless network connections which

allow acquisition and evaluation on line of all test parameters (pressure, temperature, torque, thrust, and strain

gauges).

HYPERBARIC

N° 1 Hyperbaric Test Chamber suitable to simulate hyperbaric conditions up to 3500 m water depth.
“A hyperbaric chamber is a device capable of withstanding an internal pressure of the fluid much higher than

atmospheric. Inside the chamber one can test equipment suitable to the application underwater.

During the hyperbaric test, cyclic testing (i.e. 200 cycles) can be conducted, with multiple shell and seat tests,

verifying that the external pressure testing at depth is of no consequence to the valve, while the valve is under no

internal pressure itself.”

SLURRY TESTING

N°1 Sand Slurry Test Rig is designed fully in accordance with API 14D / ISO 10423 Specifications for the verification

and validation of the specific valve design in abrasive fluid conditions.

“The test is performed by circulating a specific amount of sand at a designed flow velocity, and cycles of the valve are

conducted under pressure. Subsequently, if a valve passes the specific qualification, all the valves with the same

design are deemed qualified.”

VARIOUS TEST BANCHES

N° 10 test benches suitable for Hydraulic tests up to 3000 Barg and Gas tests up to 1600 Barg from ½” up to 120”

included without limitations in term of valve end connections.

N°4 Test Rigs in a dedicated safety area designed and equipped for the testing of the valves for hydrofluoric acid

service from ½” up to 36”.

N°4 Test Rigs designed and equipped for the Low Temperature tests (up to -50 °C) without any limitation in size and

pressure class.

N°4 Test Rigs designed and equipped for the High temperature tests (up to -800 °C) without any limitation in size and

pressure class.

N° 2 Test benches (8 meters long) fully equipped for stress tests (Bending moment, Tensile test and Torsional tests)

without any limitation in size and pressure class.

Each test Bench is designed with suitable protections (bunker type) and equipped with a dedicated control panel

which allows the operator to perform the test without entering in the test bench area.
