Ancient Coin Mr. Silvey 338 6,7,8 Students will clean two ancient Roman coins.

Collecting Once the coins are cleaned, students will

identify the coins. Club members will be

allowed to keep their coins!

Art & Gardening Mrs. Warner 306 6,7,8 Work with nature from an artist’s standpoint.

Mrs. Westphal This club will include botanical crafts, floral

Mrs. Ivey and landscape design and gardening. Help to

make MMS outdoor environment more

beautiful.

Bananagrams Mrs. Hathaway 235 6,7,8 Do you like scrabble? Me neither. Although

BANANAGRAMS has letter tiles like

scrabble, it is way more fun! One game lasts

between 8 and 20 minutes and can be played

with teams or individuals. Over the course of

the semester, everyone will get to play

everyone else in the club. Come have fun.

Beading Mrs. DaSilva 236 6,7,8 This club is for those who have their own

beading supplies and want to develop their

talents and create necklaces, bracelets and

more! You will learn some new techniques

and get a chance to share your skills with the

rest of the club.

Birthday Bash Mrs. Kirschner 301 6,7,8 Celebrate EVERYONE’S birthday by

decorating a birthday bulletin board and

making and sending cards.

Book Club Ms. Ryan Lib. 6&7 Love to read? Too many books, too little

Ms. Sacks only time? Join the Book Club, where you can

Mr. Polise read in the library, browse the shelves for

your next book, and get recommendations

from other students. Take a breather from

your busy life and READ!

Calligraphy Mrs. Torre 261 7&8 Calligraphy is the ancient art that means

ONLY “beautiful handwriting.” Think you’d like to

try your hand at calligraphy? This club will

give you the basics of what’s involved. The

remaining sessions will be spent practicing.

Card Game Club Ms. Valentine 263 6,7,8 Learn to play all the card games you grew up

Mr. G. Taylor playing: Spades, Hearts, Crazy 8’s, Spit,

Ms. Mullen War, UNO and more.

Classic Sports Mr. Conrad 165 6,7,8 Are you a big fan of sports? How about

Films Mr. Scialo movies? You will be introduced to some

Classic Sports Films from the past 40 years.

They will include fictional as well as real-life

stories of courage, hope, determination, and

overcoming the odds.

Club Darien a Mr. Smith 134 6,7,8 MMS students have built a virtual bridge

Darién. connecting our school in Darien, CT to a

small school in the rainforest of Darien,

Panama – a large and sparsely populated

province called by many the wildest

wilderness in the hemisphere. Our club

focuses on the connection between the two

“Dariens” and on extending a helping hand to

the children of Nicanor School and Pueblo

Nuevo School, in Darien, Panama by

preparing and sending educational materials

and other tokens of friendship to them. We

shall also plan and implement school-wide

activities based on our “Darien a Darien”

program.

Comedy Improv Mr. Halpin 233 6,7,8 Do you enjoy a good laugh? How about

Mrs. Vespe making other people laugh? Back by popular

demand, "Comedy Improv Club" will allow

you to explore the funny side of all kinds of

topics through improve games just like the

ones on the TV show, “Whose Line Is It

Anyway?”.

Computer Games Mrs. Sandor Lib. 6,7,8 Play educational games on the computer as

Mrs. Pruchnik you improve your geography, math and

science skills. Many different games of all

types and abilities will be available. Have fun

and compete against yourself as you improve

your scores.

Cribbage Mr. Kensek 136 6,7,8 Learn how to play this card game. Practice

Mrs. Lauten basic math facts and develop new strategies to

Mr. Power win at Cribbage.

Crochet Mrs. Boccanfuso Main 6,7,8 Have fun learning how to crochet. Basic

Mrs. Lajoie Office crocheting techniques will be used to make a

Mrs. Guarino special item of your choice.

Dance Mrs. Watt Aud. GIRLS We will be dancing in groups to popular

ONLY music.

Drawing Mrs. Comfort 162 6,7,8 Do you love to doodle or draw anywhere or

Mrs. Gang everywhere? Do you love listening to music

Mr. Rickert while you draw? This club is for kids who

don’t want drawing lessons, but want time to

chill, listen to music (we will set up a

schedule for who gets to bring in music each

time for everyone to listen to) and draw or

doodle. You don’t have to be an artist to join

this club! Different colored paper and colored

pencils will be provided, but you may bring

your own materials.

Film Critics Ms. Moss 331 6,7,8 View and critique segments of classic films.

Fit Zone Mr. Zeyer Fitness 7 & 8 The Fit zone will be open to 7th and 8th grade

Mrs. Glaser Center ONLY students. The focus will be on improving

Mrs. Lindley cardiovascular and muscular endurance. The

students will use a wide variety of equipment

such as the climbing wall, dance dance

revolution and fitness equipment

Games Mr. McArdle Café. 6th Play a variety of table, board and word

Ms. Scott Grade games. Four video game stations including

Mrs. Isaacs ONLY Play Station 2.

Girlfriends United Mrs. DePiano 334 6th & 7th Are you a sixth-grade or seventh-grade girl?

Mrs. Kelly Grade Do you spend all day at MMS without seeing

Girls your friend? Do you wish you could spend

Only some quality time with your friend during the

school day? Then this is the club for you! If

you and one other friend want to chat the club

time away, you both must first get permission

from Mrs. Kelly (Room 335) or Mrs. DePiano

(Room 362).

Golf Mr. O’Donnell Old 6,7,8 Learn all you need to know to play golf on a

Mr. Keating Gym real course. Topics covered include the full

swing, chipping, putting, etiquette, care of the

course and golf language. The Golf Club

meets outside whenever the weather permits.

Guitar Mr. Torres 121 6,7,8 The guitar club is offered to the

experienced player (intermediate-

advanced). 2 years guitar

experienced required. Students will

learn classic songs, new chords, and new

picking and strumming techniques. We will

also explore song writing. Bring your own

guitar if you can!

Illustrated Ms. Colonies 366 6,7,8 Are the pages of your notebook covered in

Adventures drawing of characters? Is their story racing

through your head as you add the details that

bring them to life on the page? Do you read

comic books or watch anime and think that

you could create that –or even do it better? In

this club, you’ll learn the format and process

of creating a comic book and/or graphic

novel, develop a story for your characters to

live through and work to publish your own

comic book.

Jigsaw Puzzles Mrs. Mears 132 6,7,8 Let’s put together some jigsaw puzzles! Bring

a puzzle of your choice (try to challenge

yourself) and see how long it takes you to

complete it. Try your basic two dimensional

puzzles, or be brave and go for a three-

dimensional puzzle.

Knitting Mrs. Larit 260 6,7,8 Learn to knit small projects such as ski hats or

Ms. Gorman small mufflers. For beginners or advance

Mrs. Taylor knitters. If you have a work in progress you

can bring it to club.

Knock-out Mr. Camillo 268 7th & 8th The ever-popular elimination game of catch.

GRADE Skill and strategy are a must! Prizes for

ONLY weekly and overall winners! Catch the

excitement!

Lots of Laughs Ms. Coords Guid. 8th Feeling stressed? They say laughter is the best

Office GRADE medicine! Come spend activity period with

ONLY Miss Coords exploring the best ways to tickle

the funny bone in a cozy setting. Activities

include games of Apples to Apples &

Catchphrase, joke telling and riddle solving,

mad libs, and much more!

Mad Scientists Mrs. Mainiero 262 7th & 8th Enjoy science? Want to run and carry out

Mr. Heher GRADE experiments with other mad scientists? Come

ONLY join Mrs. Mainero and Mr. Heher as we dive

head first into the core of science!

The Mane Event Mrs. Sharon 302 6,7,8 We will learn about horses, research horses

Mrs. Kaye-Eleck on the internet, do art with horses as the

Ms. M. Mitchell subject matter, and perhaps take a field trip to

an equestrian center or for a trail ride. If you

love horses, meet with other people who have

been “bitten by the horse bug”.

Math Club Mr. Timmons 137 6,7,8 Explore challenging problems that are used in

Mrs. Shannon Math Team competitions. Also get a chance

to watch exciting videos related to

mathematics and play math games and

puzzles. You can even get help with your

math homework.

Model Building Mr. Tracey 234 6,7,8 Assemble models. Students are encouraged

Mr. St. Raymond to bring their own kits.

Paper Football Mrs. Rodriguez Cafe 6,7,8 Join the Paper Football Championships to

Mr. Faust play finger football with all your friends, and

Mr. Mitchell meet new ones. You will be able to make a

team name, compete against others in the

regular season, see your standings, and try to

make your way to the Middlesex Middle

School Paper Football Championships!

Photoshop Mrs. Norelli 230 6, 7,8 Photoshop Club is a time to try out some of

Mrs. Osterndorf the many tools to make a great picture.

Students will be able to take pictures, bring in

pictures and find pictures to import into

Photoshop. They will then alter their photos

and try out styles in Photoshop 6.0.

Reading Nook Ms. Prushko 133 6.7.8 SSR not long enough? Do you have a pile of

Mrs. Chajon books or magazines at home but not enough

Ms. L. Kay time in the day to read? Join us in the reading

Mr. Marin nook, a quiet spot to read books, magazines,

comic books, or newspapers. Note: students

must supply their own reading material.

Reel Deal Mrs. Michael 163 6,7,8 Escape to the movies! Enjoy some childhood

Ms. Giotis favorites during activity time. Movies include

Miracle, Bedtime Stories, National Treasure, The

Incredibles, and the A Christmas Story to name a

few. It will be a thumbs-up experience.

Science Fiction Ms. Cellini 312 6,7,8 If you love science fiction, this is the club for

Film Club you! We will view science fiction films [or

segments of them] and related television

program series and probe for the ideas behind

them. As we do, we will try to answer the

following questions: What is the "science

fiction" imagination? Can science fiction

become reality? Are there any examples?

We will also make art based on science

fiction, possibly write a collaborative science

fiction story, and/or take photographs of

constructed science fiction scenarios.

Scrabble Mrs. Trezza 336 6 and 7 Scrabble, America’s Favorite Word Game, is

Mrs. D.Wagner ONLY a great game to play. Not only does it help

develop word skills, it’s fun too. Each time

you play, you are certain to be a better player.

probably winning every time. Become a

champion and everyone will want to

challenge you. Sign up for SCRABBLE!

Scrap-booking Mrs. Fine 305 6,7,8 Students will bring 6-8 similarly themed

Mrs. Pierce photos (birthday, holiday, family, etc). The

sessions will focus on various layout and

design options and include experimentation

with backgrounds and borders, stickers and

die-cuts, as well as the matting of photos

w/regular & decorative scissors. Time will be

spent on discussing archival quality glues,

stickers & pens, which are an absolute

necessity to preserve special

photos/memories.

7th Heaven Mrs. Casella 265 7 girls If you enjoy decorating and making jewelry,

Ms. Guajardo only this is the club for you! Join 7th Heaven and

spend time with friends, all while doing fun

and creative activities. We will be decorating

votives, picture frames, accessories and that’s

just the beginning! Open to all 7th grade girls.

Small Screen Ms. Catalano 160 6,7,8 If you like science and nature then join the

Science Small Screen Science Club! In this club we

will watch and discuss science TV shows and

documentaries such as Nature, NOVA and

National Geographic Explorer as well as

shows from the Discovery Channel.

Spanish Movie Mrs. Power 161 6,7,8 You've seen the Harry Potter movies. I bet

Club Mrs. Pietrafeso you even caught a viewing of Meet the

Parents. But have you seen these films in

Spanish? Join our club and vote on your

favorite movies to watch in Espanol.

Super 6th Mrs. Bruni 335 6th girls Come join us in making fun craft projects,

only such as bracelets and picture frames, and

watching “chick flicks”! We will be focusing

on having fun and being creative.

Tic Toc Clock Mr. Gerner 116 7th The students will build a desk clock (a

Club Mr. Brochinsky GRADE possible family heirloom) that will have a

ONLY wooden frame and a quartz movement. This

club is open to seventh graders only.

Trivia Club Mr. Romeo 368 6,7,8 Are you a trivia buff? Do you prefer

Jeopardy! to The Price is Right? Are you

smarter than most 6th, 7th, or 8th graders? Join

the Middlesex Middle School Quiz Bowl

team and prove it! We will compete in local

and nationwide quiz bowls in attempt to show

our true genius!

Walking & Mrs. Bieluch 131 6,7,8 POWER WALKING! We are outside all

Talking Mrs. Perrett year. Appropriate clothing is a must.

Water Chemistry Mr. Martin 238 6,7,8 Water, Water everywhere! Come join the fun

of water chemistry! You will test water at

various locations in and around Darien from a

pond or river in your neighborhood or at your

favorite Darien beach. We’ll increase public

awareness of the importance of clean water in

Darien. The club is geared for students that

have an interest in clean water in Darien.

Additional activities will be planned. (8th

graders, the data that you collect can be used

for your science project.) (all testing will be

done on your time)

YOGA Mrs. Lareau 313 6,7,8 This club will incorporate breathing

GIRLS techniques and gentle stretching/postures.

ONLY! Students will gain a better understanding of

the practice.
