Parents and Scouts -
About a month ago, I sent info on conservation hours for completing the requirements for the 50-Miler Afoot/Afloat Award.
We were not able to make arrangements for any work days in December, but there are more opportunities in the next
several months.
Once again, these work dates are for the Forest Preserve District of Will County. The dates are Jan 23rd, Feb 6th, Feb
27th, and Mar 13th. The hours are from 8 a.m. to noon; the locations vary (but all in Will County, obviously). I am
probably going to work all of these dates (I have 4 patches to complete!), so let me know if you want to work any of these
dates with me. You must dress appropriately for the weather, and will want to bring your own snacks, but water and work
gloves will be provided. We will be cutting and stacking wood. There will probably be more dates in April-June, but I can't
guarantee it, and we can also consider the Beaver Days at Rainbow Council. I will continue to communicate future dates;
if you know of other opportunities with other organizations, please pass this info on to me and we can incorporate it into
our schedule.
If you completed the miles for:
- the 2006 canoe trip to the Boundary Waters
- the 2007 backpacking trip on Kentucky's Land-Between-the-Lakes
- the 2009 canoe trip to the Boundary Waters
or are considering the 2010 backpacking trip, you need 10 conservation hours for each trip completed to earn the 50-Miler
patch. You can respond to this e-mail or see me at troop meetings (I will have a sign-up sheet).
Yours in Scouting,
Ed Fleming
