Against the Wall by Rhyannon Byrd
The Vanishing Review
Shes a good girl ready for her turn to be bad. Hes a hard-ass set on
resisting the inevitable. When temptation lives just around the corner, who
knows what wicked wonders will result? Shea Dresden doesnt need her
PhD to know shes more brains than bod too much bookworm, too little
bada-bing! but this is getting ridiculous. Her sexy nextdoor neighbor, the
sinfully irresistible Ryan McCall, has been going out of his way to ignore
her for months now. Shes flirted, asked him out, done everything but beg
and still come up empty-handed. Tired of waiting for what she wants,
Shea hatches a scheme to snag the stubborn ATF agent once and for all.
Its the perfect plan, and shes willing to do anything to make it work. But
when her little strategy backfires, Shea finds shes being rescued instead of
ravished. And she still wants her mind-shattering night of sexual ecstasy.
Whats a desperate woman to do? Rock his world, of course! Sheas not
about to take another no, especially when shes already got the sexy stud
in her bedroom. She may have to swallow her pride to get what she wants
but by the end of the night, its Ryan whos paying all the lip service. Ryan
McCalls been burned before, and he knows better than to play with fire.
Too bad the shy little scholar living right nextdoor affects him like gasoline
on an open flame. Hes done his best to stay the hell away from her, but
once he gets that first taste, he knows hes in some serious trouble. Shea
may be looking for wild times between the sheets, but Ryan soon finds hes
ready to convince her to take a chance on a bad boy like himself forever.
I have already written a review on this book but a month later it vanished
without trace and for no apparent reason. I'll have another shot at it, see if
I have better luck this time round.
This is a book heavy on the sex, pretty similar to 'Waiting For It', the heroes
being obssessed with each other, the male character in particular wanting
to consume the heroine. So readers who finds explicit, detailed sex
offensive, be warned. For those who, on the other hand enjoy the heat to
burn the pages, then Rhyannon Byrd does it better than most.
Ryan McCall is an ATF Agent, who has built a thick outer shell around his
emotions, not allowing any female to penetrate more than skin deep. For
this precise reason his affairs are limited to the bedroom and all come with
an expiry date. Reds is the name of a sleazy bar which Ryan frequnts as
the women he meets there are not particular about commitment. This
arrangement suits our hero, that is until he is confronted with his new
neighbour who embodies none of the above traits. In fact, she is an
intellectual, a virtual innocent in carnal affairs and infinitely appealing. The
best course to follow is to steer clear of Shea Dresden who can only mean
trouble and deep emotional involvement.
Shea, however, has her own plans regarding Ryan. He is the most
devastating man she has ever met and is not about to give up on the once
in a lifetime chance to be with him. She will persevere with her plan to lur e
him to her bed, despite his obvious reluctance. She will go as far as act
out of character by seeking him out in his haunt 'Reds', dressed
appropriately for seduction. Her plan backfires and she lands in trouble
she can't handle but fortunately, our hero is there to extricate her and offer
her all she bargained for and more.
This is a relatively short book which does not emphasize on the plot but
compensates by including some of the hottest sex I have read, so far.
There is such yearning and hunger that the sex, raw though it is, is not
crude or superfluous. I, for one, was involved enough to believe that they
couldn't do without each other. Fun read but avoid reading it in public
places. Definitely not suitable for the subway route.
