3-on-3 Basketball Rules
Each county may have one team in the tournament.
Each game will be played to a set score of 21 points or a 15-minute time limit
whichever comes first. The winning team must win by a two-point advantage if they
are within the time constraint. If a game reaches 24 points and is tied within the time
constraint, the next team to score wins.
A coin toss will be conducted prior to the start of the game. The winner of the coin
toss will have the option of playing offense or defense first.
Possession will change after every made basket and the ball must be in bounded from
beneath the made basket. The defensive team may not "press" in front of the foul line
of their own basket.
All baskets will count as one point regardless of where they are shot.
10 seconds in the backcourt and 3 seconds in the lane will be enforced.
A team must have 3 players present at the scheduled game time, with at least two
females, in order to play. If a team cannot field enough players at game time, they
will forfeit. Teams must represent one county; the exception would be from an
Extension unit.
Two time-outs per game per team will be allowed.
Good sportsmanship is expected from all players, officials, and spectators.
Appropriate action will be taken against any who do not comply. Trash talking,
inappropriate language, and slamming the ball down will result in a technical foul.
Subs must check in at the scorer's stand and wait to be motioned on the court by an
official. All players must be listed on the roster at the beginning of the game.
Modifications to the list submitted at registration may be made, however, there must
be a minimum of two females on the court at all times. If an injury occurs and a team
cannot field enough players or enough females, they will be forced to forfeit the
game.
The game will be played with a running clock, which will stop only for an official's
time-out. The clock will continue to run during foul situations.
Absolutely NO jewelry of any kind except medical ID bracelets, which must be taped
down to the body. No jewelry includes watches, rings, bracelets, necklaces, earrings,
body piercing, etc. Caps and hats will not be allowed on the court during play.
Teams will not be allowed to leave until all equipment has been accounted for.
All other basketball rules will apply where necessary.
The primary purpose of this event is to provide a safe form of recreation. The
competitive drive to win should not be placed above safety.
The games will be played in the Colvin Center Annex or other appropriate court on
campus. A bracket of game locations and times will be in the registration material.
The games will begin at the time listed on the bracket, or immediately after the large
group event that precedes the contest. Teams should be at the game site 15 minutes
before game time to assure not being eliminated for being late. If you miss your coin
toss time, you will forfeit the game.
This will be a single elimination tournament.
