National Park Service Announces Winners of the

“View from the Park” Photography Contest

All Winning Photos Displayed at Gateway Arch Now Through September 15



(St. Louis) – The National Park Service is pleased to announce the winners of the “View from

the Park” photography contest. The contest required participants to submit unique photographs

taken within the boundary of the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial (JNEM) in three

categories: nature, landscape and architecture. Contestants submitted pictures May 15 through

July 31, to compete for an exhibition at the Gateway Arch.



The following winning contestants will have their images displayed at the Arch August 15

through September 15:



Architecture: Adult

1st: Jason Arand, St. Louis, Mo., “Balloons”

2nd: Jim Haegele, Fenton, Mo., “Gateway Reflection”

3rd: Kay Ward, Crestwood, Mo., “The Arch in a Bubble”



Architecture: Youth

1st: Elyse Mack, Olivette, Mo., “Arch Madness”

2nd: Jared Williams, Normandy, Mo., “Up and Out”

3rd: Elyse Mack, Olivette, Mo., “The Old Courthouse”



Landscape: Adult

1st: Dan Borders, Chesterfield, Mo., “Winter Magic”

2nd: Ron Dawson, St Louis, Mo., “Bombs Bursting in Air”

3rd: Carolyn Schlueter, Saint Charles, Mo., “Cool Hoop”



Landscape: Youth

1st: Fred Behm, St. Louis, Mo., “Winter at the Arch”

2nd: Libbye Tellor, Columbia, Ill., “Expansion”

3rd: Fred Behm, St. Louis, Mo., “Summer at the Arch”



Nature: Adult

1st: Jim Trotter, St. Louis, Mo., “Foggy Arch”

2nd: Jim Haegele, Fenton, Mo., “Duck at Dusk on Arch Pond”

 Larry Bixby – photography enthusiast and National Park Service audio/visual specialist



The “View from the Park” photo contest was made possible by the Jefferson National Parks

Association, with additional support provided by Photogenic, Inc., Schiller Camera Company,

Wal-Mart, Metro Business Enterprises, and the St. Louis Camera Club.



JNEM and the Gateway Arch are part of the Core of Discovery, which is a multi-faceted,

downtown destination to attract local families and increase visibility of the many attractions and

activities in downtown St. Louis.
