Ways to Encourage JAM UpTime Devotional Use in the GNC

1. For giving JAM UpTime Devotionals to the children, the following is suggested:

A. Younger devotional – suggested for children grades K-2nd.

a. Copy sheet front and back (color or black & white)

b. Give each week as it corresponds to the lesson. Give extras for the weeks you will not have

GNC. Hand them to the parent when the child gets into the car.

c. Encourage the children to keep their Devotionals in their folder.

B. Older devotional – suggested for children grades 3-6

a. Copy sheet front and back (color or black & white) and fold to form a booklet

b. Give each week as it corresponds to the lesson. Give extras for the weeks you will not have

GNC.

c. Encourage the children to keep their Devotionals in their folder.

C. Folders –give to each child when he/she starts GNC.

a. Purchase JAM UpTime folders from the Greenville/Piedmont CEF office at $.25 each.

b. There is a template of a folder that you can make available with the JAM UpTime material.

There are 2 sizes possible. Place a label with your church information and any other information

you want the children and their families to have on the inside section of the folder.

2. For checking JAM UpTime Devotionals there are several options:

A. Have a person dedicated to the JAM UpTime for the whole GNC. The children who did their

devotional go to wherever that person is located. That person checks the paper, marks the back of

the name tag, and gives the team tickets and whatever other reward is being offered.

B. Grade Shepherds (or another person) take the sheets home, check and correct them, and bring them

back the next week to return to the children. A small reward could be given when the child gives his

devotional to his grade shepherd then points and/or a larger reward would be given after the paper

is checked. Grade Shepherds should call at least 2 students a week. One of the things they could

talk about is how the child is doing on their Jam UpTime Devotional.

3. For encouraging JAM UpTime in GNC, the following is suggested:

A. Use the JAM UpTime script at the beginning of club, as part of the opening.

B. Each week recognize those who brought back their sheets in front of the whole GNC.

4. For rewarding the children who did at least part of their JAM UpTime, the following is suggested:

A. For each Day completed (older) or section for younger: 1 team ticket, 1 jelly bean or other small

candy

B. For each sheet completed (choose one or a combination of several):

a. Name placed in a jar for a drawing for a prize (full size candy bar, $1 gift, etc.)

b. Get to stand up during JAM UpTime and be recognized (can draw name then-see above)

c. Get to answer a question during JAM UpTime and earn an extra team point or candy.

d. Take a picture of the individuals or group and add to next week’s PowerPoint.

C. Give the following rewards for those who finished all the sheets in a series:

a. A specific prize like a $5 gift or gift card, a Bible, etc.

b. A pizza or ice cream party

c. An outing to the park with the teachers (plan a Saturday or Sunday, send home an

information/permission form, have at least 3 GNC workers present)
