On behalf of Amnesty International please ensure that all members of the
national army, the FARDC, the National Police and other security forces of the
country, who are suspected of committing sexual violence, are suspended from
duty until after these crimes have been investigated and the perpetrators brought
to justice, in accordance with international fair trial standards.
Please ensure that the national prison system is rehabilitated in order to prevent
escapes of suspects. Ensure that judicial officials are able to carry out their
investigations and prosecutions as well as guarantee the protection of witnesses.
Security forces must be made aware of the international obligations of the
government of the DCR to ban all forms of sexual violence and to provide
training and guidelines to ensure that this obligation is respected.
Also, ensure that victims of sexual violence receive adequate health services and
psycho-social support and that local NGOs providing this support receive all
necessary assistance and protection to carry out their work.
