DOT Pro Bono Services Committee Receives Award
from
Washington Council of Lawyers
On November 5, 2003, the Washington Council of Lawyers held its 2003 Annual Awards
Reception. The program included a new award category created by the Council --
Government Pro Bono Awards -- in honor of an agency or individual government
attorney for pro bono work. We are pleased and gratified that the DOT Pro Bono
Services Committee was the recipient of the Council’s 2003 Pro Bono Government
Award for agencies. This recognition reflects the commitment and dedication of many
DOT attorneys to ensuring that pro bono legal and volunteer services are available to
those in need of legal assistance who do not have adequate financial means to secure
these services.
The Washington Council of Lawyers is a voluntary bar association located in the
Nation’s capital. Its mission is to promote the practice of pro bono and public interest
law. Council membership is comprised of attorneys and other legal professionals, law
students, and others committed to advancing issues important to the public interest
community.
A Council board member presented the award to Helen Serassio in DOT’s General
Counsel’s Office, on behalf of the DOT Pro Bono Services Committee. The elegant
sculpture work presented at the ceremony is inscribed as follows:
