Teaching learning program teaches
Preschoolers oral hygiene to
Oral Hygiene preschool-aged children
through kindergarten.
The program consists of
different modules
relating to oral hygiene
that are presented in a
two-hour period at a
community site. The
objectives of the program
are to improve the oral
health education of
children, their parents,
and teachers. These
informative sessions
provide children with the
knowledge about good
oral health, which is
regulated to their age.
One example of an
outreach event was at
the 2nd Presbyterian
Church with preschool-
aged children. We took
stuffed animals with
teeth to demonstrate
tooth brushing, as well as
an oral hygiene
curriculum discussing
dietary items that can
negatively and positively
impact proper oral
hygiene. Children are
given an opportunity to
demonstrate the
knowledge they have
about proper brushing
techniques. The outreach
event encourages
children to think about
the importance of having
healthy teeth and good
oral hygiene, which leads
to an overall healthy
body.
