                                7th GRADE BOYS CELEBRATE

         2ND PLACE IN CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP
Our 7th grade boys’ volleyball team finished their season with 8 wins and 4 losses, 3 of those losses came to an undefeated Hillcrest squad.

This year’s Desert Sky team surprised many with their thirst to get better everyday. I told them to pick the brains of a very tough Desert

Sky 8th grade squad, and they did. Thank you 8th grade team for your unselfish sharing of technique and strategy. I hope the 7th grade

boys’ work ethic on the court is mirrored in the classroom.

We finished our season as the conference runner-ups. We had to make some adjustments in the last week of the season and I told the boys

to play 1 point at a time. We had a tough 3 match set against Highland Lakes on Thursday to move into the championship match on Saturday

against Hillcrest. The team came out a little nervous in the first game and we were down 6 to 1 before we got into a rhythm, but the boys

played Hillcrest even the rest of the way and pushed them to a 3rd set 20 to 25, 25 to 23, 11 to 15. The boys gave it everything they had.

It was extremely exciting! I could not have asked for a better set of kids to work with. Team members were Vaughan Keller, Cole Holland,

Brock Berech, Logan Adcock, Cody Fullerton, Chris Jones, Tonnes Brien, Alec Leyba, Jacob Phillips, Chase Carter, and Andrew Braden.

GREAT JOB, BOLTS! Coach Whitson

To reinforce the Safe Schools objectives in Deer Valley, the counselors at Desert Sky completed their lessons on Sexual Harassment in the

science classrooms. Prior to the classroom lessons, the majority of students usually are not aware of what constitutes sexual harassment

and frequently misunderstand appropriate boundaries. It is the counselors’ hope that following these lessons, all students are able to

define sexual harassment, identify the three methods of sexual harassment and explain the consequence of engaging in sexual harassment

in the school setting. It is important we encourage students that become victim to this act to use their voice and tell the perpetrator to

stop and, if that doesn’t work, then students should inform an adult. We encourage parents to continue the dialogue with their students

about appropriate behavior. The Student Rights and Responsibilities Handbook is an excellent resource to review. To assist parents with

the discussion that took place in the classrooms, we have provided the following important information:

                                                           SEXUAL HARRASSMENT
A deliberate and/or repeated sexual or sex-based behavior that is not welcomed.

Usually an imbalance of power when one person does something and the other person does not want it to happen.

                                               THREE METHODS OF SEXUAL HARRASSMENT

VISUAL, such as the display of derogatory cartoons, drawings, text messages, IM messages or gestures

Look your best by getting the nutrition you need. Eating fruits, vegetables, dairy, meats and things you love like pasta are all things your
body needs to stay healthy. But the only problem is you have to watch your portion size. Too much all the time will result in you being
oversized with a pair of thunder thighs. Too little and you'll become way too small and we all know that's not all. It will affect your organs
and your heart as well. So eat right all the time and you will fulfill your perfect size!

Smoking is one of the most disgusting and expensive habits on earth, but the worst part is, once you start, it is almost impossible to quit.
The nicotine heavily packed in each cigarette causes a craving that your body will soon need regularly if you don't stop soon enough.
Smoking can cause many internal problems, too, like cancer, heart problems and heart attacks, and lung diseases. After years of smoking,
your air flow will wither down to almost nothing, and constant choking and coughing will be unavoidable. But worst of all, your appearance can
completely transform, leaving you with a potent smell in your breath and body. You could have yellow nails, rotted teeth, yellowed skin, and
you'll probably look like you are 20 years older than you really are. Finally, it can end with death. So play it smart, and just don't start!

                                              HEALTH UPDATE
Protecting yourself from CA-MRSA – which might be just about anywhere, may seem daunting, but these common-sense precautions can

help reduce your risk:

    • WASH YOUR HANDS! Careful hand washing remains your best defense against germs! Scrub hands briskly for at least 15
seconds, then dry them with a disposable towel and use another towel to turn off the faucet. Carry a small bottle of hand

sanitizer containing at least 62% alcohol for times when you don’t have access to soap and water.

    • KEEP PERSONAL ITEMS PERSONAL! Avoid sharing towels, sheets, razors, clothing and athletic equipment. MRSA spreads
on contaminated objects as well as through direct contact.

    • KEEP WOUNDS COVERED! The pus from infected sores often contains MRSA, and keeping wounds covered will help keep
         the bacteria from spreading.

    • SANITIZE LINENS! If you have a cut or sore, wash towels and bed linens in hot water with added bleach and dry them in a
hot dryer. Wash gym and athletic clothes after each wearing.
