9 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
10
11 TO DECLARE FEBRUARY 2011 AS NATIONAL
12 CHILDREN’S DENTAL HEALTH MONTH, AND TO THANK
13 SOUTH CAROLINA DENTAL-HEALTH-CARE PROVIDERS
14 FOR MAKING FEBRUARY 4, 2011, “GIVE KIDS A SMILE
15 DAY” THAT PROMOTED ORAL HEALTH AND JOINED IN
16 THE EFFORTS THROUGHOUT THE NATION TO
17 ADVOCATE FOR ORAL HEALTH AWARENESS AND
18 OPTIMAL ORAL HEALTH IN CHILDREN.
19
20 Whereas, the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina is
21 proud to promote good oral health through National Children’s
22 Dental Health Month in February 2011; and
23
24 Whereas, National Children’s Dental Health Month and “Give
25 Kids a Smile Day” are specific times set aside to focus attention on
26 the highly preventable epidemic of untreated oral disease among
27 disadvantaged children; and
28
29 Whereas, five times more common than asthma and seven times
30 more common than hay fever, dental decay in children is not a
31 widely recognized problem but is detrimental to the health of all
32 South Carolinians; and
33
34 Whereas, an estimated twenty-three million children in America
35 are without dental insurance; and
36
37 Whereas, the future, in large part, is dependent on the good health
38 of our families; and
39
40 Whereas, good overall health and educational success can be
41 achieved in part through good oral health care; and
42
[558] 1
1 Whereas, the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina
2 stands committed to supporting regular and thorough oral health
3 care for the children of our State, so they may smile brightly and
4 proudly in the future. Now, therefore,
5
6 Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives
7 concurring:
8
9 That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South
10 Carolina, by this resolution, declare February 2011 as National
11 Children’s Dental Health Month, and thank South Carolina
12 dental-health-care providers for making February 4, 2011, “Give
13 Kids a Smile Day” that promoted oral health and joined in the
14 efforts throughout the nation to advocate for oral health awareness
15 and optimal oral health in children.
16
17 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to
18 the South Carolina Dental Association.
