THE SUPER BOWL KICKS OFF THE ANA’S RECOMMENDATION TO
CLOSED CAPTION ALL COMMERCIALS
NEW YORK, [February 2, 2011]—The Hearing Access Program was thrilled by the
news from the NFL that all the Super Bowl commercials will be closed captioned in
addition to the game and all the NFL and Fox promos.
This is the first time that all the commercials and promos will be closed captioned. This
announcement follows on the heels of the Association of National Advertisers
recommending in December that all commercials be closed-captioned.
“ Regardless of who wins this Sunday” said Janice Schacter, the founder and chair of the
Hearing Access Program. “It will be a win for people with hearing loss and advertisers.”
As this Super Bowl demonstrates, all commercials should be captioned. The work for this
effort continues courtesy of American Association of People with Disabilities, Hearing
Access Program, National Association of the Deaf, the NFL and the Northern Virginia
Resource Center for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Persons.
