Dear Parents,
The William Floyd Elementary School is continuing the Can Tabs for Kids Project–
Supporting the Fight Against Childhood Cancer project for the 2011-2012 school year. We
would like to get XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX Elementary School involved. We are
encouraging all students to bring in can tabs (soda, soft drinks, pet food, etc.) to school.
Gershow Recycling has agreed to collect the can tabs, weigh them and give us the going
aluminum value for the tabs, per pound. All the money raised will go directly to the Sunrise
Fund at Stony Brook, an organization that was established to raise awareness about childhood
cancer and to raise funds for specific projects including a respite center, a playroom, extended
support services, facilities and programs that meet their families growing needs, and vital
research into the causes and treatment of childhood cancers. All money that we raise through
the collection of tabs will be used for the Education Award Program and will go directly to
children.
Please place all tabs in a zip-lock bag, label the bag with the number of can tabs and the
teacher’s name. Each school will need have a teacher in charge or a collection point. Please
have your child bring in as many can tabs as possible to help with this great cause.
Thank you in advance for your participation in this worthwhile project.
Sincerely,
Keith Fasciana
Principal, William Floyd Elementary School
