To whom it may concern,
I was very interested in pursuing a full-time position and would like to learn more about your
available opportunity. I feel my advanced interpersonal and organizational skills, combined
with my marketing education and employment experience, and overall desire to learn would
add value to your company.
I am a graduate of the University of Michigan – Dearborn, where I earned a marketing and
management BBA. Throughout my college education I excelled at organizing multiple tasks,
coordinating group projects, and understanding market trends by analyzing benchmark case
studies. I recently enrolled at Specs Howard School of Broadcast Arts where I intend on
receiving a TV/video production certificate. This added education will prepare me for a
media-orientated career with an emphasis on media and public relations, commercial
production, creative advertising direction, and TV/video production, editing and directing.
Recently, I was employed with Mason Dixon Intermodal Inc. As fleet manager I was
responsible for managing part of a fleet of owner-operators, coordinating import/export
container freight. Based on our customer’s specifications I dispatched our drivers to various
locations ensuring stringent appointment times were met. My main account was servicing a
large Chrysler export supplier, Linc Logistics, where I had a strong relationship coordinating
our efforts; in over a year, I never missed a rail cut off or appointment time. In addition, I
oversaw the driver sign-on process, an extensive hiring process that involved considerable
discretion and attention to detail; and required collection and reviewing of signed contracts,
insurance applications, federal and state forms, and various other items per state and
company policies. Lastly, I was at the forefront of enforcing safety items required by Mason
Dixon and the DOT; ensuring tractor inspections, daily logs, and maintenance reports were
submitted on time and correctly.
While studying at U of M – Dearborn, I interned at Street Marketing where I gained valuable
experience within a marketing agency. In this role, I learned how promotional events and
advertising accounts were managed. Representing such national brands as Land Rover,
Edy’s Ice Cream, and Angus Certified Beef, I worked in public settings, promoting and
sampling their products and gathering testimonials while building brand awareness. In
addition, I worked exclusively with Little Italy, a Northville restaurant, helping launch their
catering business by establishing relationships with area businesses and office buildings.
I also have considerable retail experience, learning retail sales’ best practices. I excelled at
all aspects of merchandising: following corporate planagrams, updating product layouts,
preparing displays for promotions and weekly circulars, as well as driving sales through
intensive customer service. While working at The Sports Authority, I was promoted to
hardlines team leader. In this position I was a liaison between upper management and lower-
level associates, managing department tasks, budgets and employee placement.
For over seven years I also personally managed a sport trading card business, which
included procuring floor space at trade shows, assembling displays, utilizing creative
signage, and focusing customer service on driving new sales and retaining loyalty.
Thank you for your consideration of my application. I hope to have the opportunity to discuss
an open position with you in person. Given the opportunity, I know I can become a valuable
asset to your company and its clients. Thank you again and best regards.
Sincerely,
Patrick Witt
