COMMITTEE OF THE GRENADA HURRICANE RELIEF FUND



INFORMATION



MONTREAL, SEPTEMBER 15, 2004……GRENADA NEEDS YOUR HELP!!!

On Tuesday, September 7, The Caribbean island of Grenada was

devastated by a Category 4 Hurricane, Ivan the Terrible. Reports have

indicated that 90 per cent of the housing has been damaged or destroyed,

leaving most residents with nothing. The Grenada Nationals Association of

Montreal, Caring and Helping Hands, a Federally chartered international

organization run by Rev. Everton M. Bagot of Montreal, in conjunction with

other Caribbean Organizations, the Cote Des Neiges Black Community

Association, Access Caribbean and many Grenadians living in Montreal,

have launched The Grenada Hurricane Relief Fund to send money, food

and clothing to the devasted isle of spice immediately. Over 50 people have

died and the death toll is climbing. Reports have stated that 60,000 people

have lost their homes, in a population of only 100,000 people.



The Preliminary Needs Assessment for Grenada at this time include non-

perishable/canned food, water, clothing, bedding, blankets, hospital/first

aid supplies, battery operated lights, batteries (all sizes); radios, tents,

roofing material, cots, medicine, generators, tarpaulins, building supplies

(all types) construction tools; emergency housing, hand held sets required

to improve communication among emergency workers.

PLANNING A FEW FUNDRAISING EVENTS IN THE NEAR FUTURE AS

FOLLOWS. PLEASE HELP US TO PROMOTE THESE EVENTS:





1.

“RE-BUILD GRENADA BRICK BY BRICK” CAMPAIGN

Donors can contribute $100 to buy a brick to rebuild Grenada. You can buy

as many bricks as you wish. Negotiations are being made to erect the

names of donors on a special designated site on the island of Grenada,

(preferable at the Airport).



Donation cheques should be made payable to CDNBCA In Trust for

Grenada Hurricane Relief Fund (GHRF) and forwarded to The Cote Des

Neiges Black Community Association, 6999 Cote des Neiges Road,

Montreal, Quebec H3S 2B8. Phone NO: (514) 737-8321. Tax receipts will

be given for donations of $20.00 and over.



Anyone and Everyone is invited to participate in this massive campaign.
