Becoming a Great Teacher Mediocre teacher tells Good teacher explains The superior teacher demonstrates Great teacher inspires William A. Ward Last week I went to Jakarta following the launch of the book The 8th Habit "by DR. Stephen R. Covey. One interesting thing that is conveyed by Covey,? I am more a teacher than a speaker?. The essence of the book that most newer Covey This is how we can find our life purpose and then help others do the same thing. Or in the language Covey,? Find your inner voice and inspire others to find theirs?. Another thing that really impressed that I got from the seminar is as Covey says,? Leadership is communicating people? S worth and potential so that they are Clearly inspired to see it in themselves? . Wow! .. a statement that is so beautiful and wonderful that makes me very inspired. Why Covey said that he was more as a teacher from the speaker? As Covey said this statement I immediately remembered the wise words of William A. Ward above. Covey is a Great Teacher because he was able to inspire others. Right then I remembered what had recently I do with a high school student who suffered? Problem?. You do not misunderstand me. I do not mean to say that I was just like Covey. I have to say is I am very happy because what I did was in line with the inspiration I got from Covey. And if I can then you could do it. Recently I was asked to help 1st grade school children, call it Budi, which according to parents and school, is a problem child. When I first met, Budi came with his father. More precisely, Budi's father took his son to see me. After chatting casually while, I saw what was to be seated problems. The first, Budi not have a figure who could become an idol or role model his life that he had no idea who would be like (the ideal). Second, Budi sees himself as a troubled child and fail in school because parents and schools see themselves like that (Self Image). Third, Budi not know what point he was the school. He does not know the purpose of his life. Like most young people, look a bit messy Budi. In his left ear? Piercing?. Clothes she wore at the time far from neat and pants are jeans in front of the thigh, the left and right, tear (the model is like that). Also Budi came with sandals. Once finished I asked Budi discussion, for the next counseling session, come alone but with one condition. I ask him to change his appearance. If he did not want then I will not give me time. I asked Budi for well-dressed, wearing a pair of fabric, not the jeans, no? Pierced? in his ears, wearing a watch, a pen in his pocket, and must wear shoes. Why me? Force? Mind to do this? I want to know how much desire to change. Is he willing to pay the price for it? Is he willing to get out of his comfort zone? The most important thing is that I want to change the way he sees himself, from no-body to be some body. The easiest step, before I helped Budi from the (mental) is to change the outward appearance. This has to do with self image. And this is part of the therapy that I would do. True. When the second meeting, Budi came himself with a changed appearance. I praise the change itself. After the outer aspect of the obok-obok, now I go into the mental aspect. Since the beginning I have regarded himself as a winner. I say this openly. I knew he was not, or not believe in him.

And I also know that I could make him believe what I say. Why? Remember the principles of the subconscious mind works in my previous article? I know Budi see me as a person who has authority. So what do I do? I use my knowledge of the workings of the mind, into the subconscious mind, and planted the seeds positive thoughts. I did this many times (repetition), by playing his emotions, either positive or negative, so that the seeds of thought that deeply ingrained in his mind. Budi and then show the new report card inserts he received. The result? Unbelievable. The teacher was run out of ink so blue? Forced? written exam score with red ink. Once I observed one thing I find interesting. Although nearly all its value? Fire? but there are two values of the two areas of study have had a very high value, namely Physics 98 and Sociology 93. I then asked,? Bud, answer honestly! Value of Physics and Sociology This is really the value you achieve your own or you cheat??. ? I tired myself sir?, Budi said firmly. I know that this honest answer by reading her body language. ? Ok. If so, the answer you justify my beliefs to you. I know you are intelligent and capable children. Red values are not really rapormu because you are not able to but because you do not learn. Really like that??, Ask me again. ? Yes sir?, Budi said he lowered his head. ? Bud, if you talk to me, I want you to talk with the head up and looked at my eyes?, My command. ? You do not want to learn because you feel that the school is no use to you. What really like that your thinking??, Chased me again. ? Yes sir?, Budi said, staring at me. Budi further explained that he had been suspended for 1 week and will be issued by the school. He wanted to move to another school and he promised to change if he had to change schools. I heard this story and said,? Bud, if you want to learn from me, then you first must understand is that we must do all the right reasons and with pride. Do not be issued. This is really embarrassing. If you are issued the same thing you are evicted because you are regarded as victims or criminals. Especially with the bad value. If you want, you who decided to get out of school. But later after the 2nd grade. You change schools but with high grades, if you need to go big in your class 5. At that school will be begging you to not move because it would lose the bright students. Well, if you move at the time, you move or get out of school with a distended chest, proud and strong. You understand this??. ? Yes sir?, Said Budi. Then I said,? Bud, I see you like a hawk who can fly very high. You're not a chicken. Chicken dead because cut. Eagles death due to old age after a high fly to explore the world. You are a hawk, not a chicken. Do not ever want to be a chicken. I am willing to help you because I see you as an eagle. I just want to train a hawk. I never want to be bothered with ayam.Tahu why? Because chickens can not fly it high. If during this school, teachers, and principal memadang you like chicken, this is because they do not know who the real you. Let us prove to them who you really are. You are an eagle. Sign of the class 5 was very easy. You have the ability to do so?. I saw he was a little confused after hearing my story. Then he said,? Honestly sir, only this time there are people who talk like this to me. I usually only reprimanded, dimarah, persecuted, and ostracized for being a bad boy and make trouble for the school. My counselor never talked like this to me?. After get enough of? Programming?, I will then give you a future that he could accomplish. The possibilities that he could choose in life. As he started to show spirit. He began to see the relationship between the school and the future. Next I helped arrange Budi learning goals or targets. How much value will it achieve for each subject. Why does he need to achieve that goal. Why he could reach it. How did he manage himself better so that time there can be used effectively and efficiently.

I then explained that all the subjects taught in schools actually fall into 4 categories, namely categories of language, concepts, combinations, and hapalan. Who entered the category of language such as Indonesian language and English. Categories for example the concept of mathematics. Category combination for example Physics, Chemistry, and Accounting. Example Hapalan Biology, Sociology, and History. Each category requires different learning strategies. I then taught the correct way of learning for each category. After that I was taught to do the test strategy. Why? Because each type of question requires a different way of working. For example multiple choice tests, essays, short answer or complete, about the story, test answers or questions objective, and Performance. Budi said,? School never taught me as you taught me. I just know that each subject requires a different learning strategies?. ? Not only school that not only do this once. Almost all schools had never taught their students to learn the right way?, I replied. Budi home with new enthusiasm. He promised to give a report about the test results he achieved. From my tutor got word that Budi has changed. Attitude, enthusiasm, and perspective of her has changed. He is more focused. Am I proud? Of course. How do I get paid for this counseling session? Her parents forced me to set a fee. I refused. I prefer to use the approach of NATO, aka No. Only Angpao Thanks. Why would I want to do this? Because I seriously want to see parents help their children change. If parents are not serious or so reluctantly I will definitely set a high price for? Force? parents do what I ask them to do. Budi parents, especially his father, willing to do what I ask for child support through the process of transformation within ourselves. Budi parents seriousness in this case was a payment for me and this can not be judged by dollars. Why? Because I believe, when Budi grow and develop into a capable person and succeed, then he will be able to live a meaningful life not only for himself, but also for their families, and communities.
