1Ki 8:22 Then Solomon stood before the
altar of the LORD in the presence of all the
assembly of Israel and spread out his hands
toward heaven.
1Ki 8:23 He said, "O LORD, the God of
Israel, there is no God like You in heaven
above or on earth beneath, keeping
covenant and showing lovingkindness to
Your servants who walk before You with all
their heart, 15
     Solomon Prayed In Faith
1Ki 8:24 who have kept with Your servant,
my father David, that which You have
promised him; indeed, You have spoken
with Your mouth and have fulfilled it with
Your hand as it is this day.

     Solomon Prayed In Faith
1Ki 8:25 "Now therefore, O LORD, the God
of Israel, keep with Your servant David my
father that which You have promised him,
saying, 'You shall not lack a man to sit on
the throne of Israel, if only your sons take
heed to their way to walk before Me as you
have walked.'

earth? Behold, heaven and the highest
heaven cannot contain You, how much less
this house which I have built!

       Daniel Prayed In Faith
Dan 9:2 in the first year of his reign, I,
Daniel, observed in the books the number of
the years which was revealed as the word of
the LORD to Jeremiah the prophet for the
completion of the desolations of Jerusalem,
namely, seventy years.
Dan 9:3 So I gave my attention to the Lord
God to seek Him by prayer and
supplications, with fasting, sackcloth and
ashes. 21
      Daniel Prayed In Faith
Dan 9:4 I prayed to the LORD my God and
confessed and said, "Alas, O Lord, the great
and awesome God, who keeps His covenant
and lovingkindness for those who love Him
and keep His commandments,
Dan 9:5 we have sinned, committed
iniquity, acted wickedly and rebelled, even
turning aside from Your commandments and
ordinances.
                                          22
      Daniel Prayed In Faith
Dan 9:6 "Moreover, we have not listened to
Your servants the prophets, who spoke in
Your name to our kings, our princes, our
fathers and all the people of the land.

                                         23
       Daniel Prayed In Faith
Dan 9:7 "Righteousness belongs to You, O
Lord, but to us open shame, as it is this day-
-to the men of Judah, the inhabitants of
Jerusalem and all Israel, those who are
nearby and those who are far away in all the
countries to which You have driven them,
because of their unfaithful deeds which they
have committed against You.

                                            24
      Daniel Prayed In Faith
Dan 9:8 "Open shame belongs to us, O
Lord, to our kings, our princes and our
fathers, because we have sinned against
You.
Dan 9:9 "To the Lord our God belong
compassion and forgiveness, for we have
rebelled against Him;

                                          25
      Daniel Prayed In Faith
Dan 9:10 nor have we obeyed the voice of
the LORD our God, to walk in His teachings
which He set before us through His servants
the prophets.
Dan 9:13 "As it is written in the law of
Moses, all this calamity has come on us; yet
we have not sought the favor of the LORD
our God by turning from our iniquity and
giving attention to Your truth.
                                          26
      Daniel Prayed In Faith
Dan 9:18 "O my God, incline Your ear and
hear! Open Your eyes and see our
desolations and the city which is called by
Your name; for we are not presenting our
supplications before You on account of any
merits of our own, but on account of Your
great compassion.

                                              27
      Daniel Prayed In Faith
Dan 9:19 "O Lord, hear! O Lord, forgive! O
Lord, listen and take action! For Your own
sake, O my God, do not delay, because
Your city and Your people are called by
Your name."

       Elijah Prayed In Faith
Jas 5:16 Therefore, confess your sins to
one another, and pray for one another so
that you may be healed. The effective prayer
of a righteous man can accomplish much.
Jas 5:17 Elijah was a man with a nature like
ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would
not rain, and it did not rain on the earth for
three years and six months.
Jas 5:18 Then he prayed again, and the sky
poured rain and the earth produced its fruit.29
        Elijah Prayed In Faith
Deu 11:16 "Beware that your hearts are not
deceived, and that you do not turn away and
serve other gods and worship them.
Deu 11:17 "Or the anger of the LORD will
be kindled against you, and He will shut up
the heavens so that there will be no rain and
the ground will not yield its fruit; and you will
perish quickly from the good land which the
LORD is giving you.
                                               30
       Elijah Prayed In Faith
Deu 11:18 "You shall therefore impress
these words of mine on your heart and on
your soul; and you shall bind them as a sign
on your hand, and they shall be as frontals
on your forehead.

                                           31
       Elijah Prayed In Faith
1Ki 17:1 Now Elijah the Tishbite, who was
of the settlers of Gilead, said to Ahab, "As
the LORD, the God of Israel lives, before
whom I stand, surely there shall be neither
dew nor rain these years, except by my
word."

                                               32
       Elijah Prayed In Faith
1Ki 18:1 Now it happened after many days
that the word of the LORD came to Elijah in
the third year, saying, "Go, show yourself to
Ahab, and I will send rain on the face of the
earth."

                                            33
       Elijah Prayed In Faith
1Ki 18:41 Now Elijah said to Ahab, "Go up,
eat and drink; for there is the sound of the
roar of a heavy shower."
1Ki 18:42 So Ahab went up to eat and
drink. But Elijah went up to the top of
Carmel; and he crouched down on the earth
and put his face between his knees.

                                           34
       Elijah Prayed In Faith
1Ki 18:43 He said to his servant, "Go up
now, look toward the sea." So he went up
and looked and said, "There is nothing." And
he said, "Go back" seven times.
1Ki 18:44 It came about at the seventh
time, that he said, "Behold, a cloud as small
as a man's hand is coming up from the sea."
And he said, "Go up, say to Ahab, 'Prepare
your chariot and go down, so that the heavy
shower does not stop you.'" 35
       Elijah Prayed In Faith
1Ki 18:45 In a little while the sky grew black
with clouds and wind, and there was a
heavy shower. And Ahab rode and went to
Jezreel.

                                            36
What Is Faith And How Do We
           Acquire It??
• Faith is not a blind leap of belief which is
  not based on reliable, reasonable
  evidence
• Faith is a confident, trusting belief in God
  resulting in obedience to Him
• It is based on reasonable evidence God
provides by His word resulting in
  obedience to Him

                                                 37
What Is Faith And How Do We
           Acquire It??
• Faith originates with God Himself who
  provides reasonable evidence for believing
in Him by Creation and in His Word
• Not only evidence of why we should
believe in God but how we should express
our faith (trust) by obeying Him in
whatever way He reveals in His Word

                                          38
         Description of Faith
Heb 11:1 Now faith is the assurance of
things hoped for, the conviction of things not
seen.
Heb 11:6 And without faith it is impossible
to please Him, for he who comes to God
must believe that He is and that He is a
rewarder of those who seek Him.

                                            39
Saving Faith Results In Obeying
              God
Heb 11:7 By faith Noah, being warned by
God about things not yet seen, in reverence
prepared an ark for the salvation of his
household, by which he condemned the
world, and became an heir of the
righteousness which is according to faith.
Heb 11:8 By faith Abraham, when he was
called, obeyed by going out to a place which
he was to receive for an inheritance; and he
went out, not knowing where he was going.40
Saving Faith Results In Obeying
              God
Jas 2:20 But are you willing to recognize,
you foolish fellow, that faith without works is
useless?
Jas 2:21 Was not Abraham our father
justified by works when he offered up Isaac
his son on the altar?
Jas 2:22 You see that faith was working
with his works, and as a result of the works,
faith was perfected;
                                              41
Saving Faith Results In Obeying
              God
Jas 2:23 and the Scripture was fulfilled
which says, "AND ABRAHAM BELIEVED
GOD, AND IT WAS RECKONED TO HIM
AS RIGHTEOUSNESS," and he was called
the friend of God.
Jas 2:24 You see that a man is justified by
works and not by faith alone.

                                          42
Faith Given By God Who Provides
   Us With Evidence For Belief
Eph 2:8 For by grace you have been saved
through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is
the gift of God;
Eph 2:9 not as a result of works, so that no
one may boast.
Eph 2:10 For we are His workmanship,
created in Christ Jesus for good works,
which God prepared beforehand so that we
would walk in them.
                                              43
Faith Given By God Who Provides
   Us With Evidence For Belief
Rom 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the
gospel, for it is the power of God for
salvation to everyone who believes, to the
Jew first and also to the Greek.
Rom 1:17 For in it the righteousness of God
is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written,
"BUT THE RIGHTEOUS man SHALL LIVE
BY FAITH."
Rom 10:17 So faith comes from hearing,
and hearing by the word of Christ. 44
Faith Given By God Who Provides
   Us With Evidence For Belief
Joh 20:30 Therefore many other signs
Jesus also performed in the presence of the
disciples, which are not written in this book;
Joh 20:31 but these have been written so
that you may believe that Jesus is the
Christ, the Son of God; and that believing
you may have life in His name.

                                             45
Prayer Is An Act Of Faith Showing
         Trust In God’s Word
• Must seek to live in harmony with God’s
Word, learning and applying what He has
  revealed to us
• Must pray in harmony with His Word not
asking for anything that would violate His
  revealed will

                                           46
Must Seek To Live In Harmony
       With God’s Word
Act 2:36 "Therefore let all the house of
Israel know for certain that God has made
Him both Lord and Christ--this Jesus whom
you crucified."
Act 2:37 Now when they heard this, they
were pierced to the heart, and said to Peter
and the rest of the apostles, "Brethren, what
shall we do?"

                                            47
Must Seek To Live In Harmony
       With God’s Word
Act 2:38 Peter said to them, "Repent, and
each of you be baptized in the name of
Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins;
and you will receive the gift of the Holy
Spirit.
Act 2:41 So then, those who had received
his word were baptized; and that day there
were added about three thousand souls.

                                            48
Must Seek To Live In Harmony
       With God’s Word
Act 2:42 They were continually devoting
themselves to the apostles' teaching and to
fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to
prayer.

                                          49
Must Seek To Live In Harmony
       With God’s Word
Rom 12:1 Therefore I urge you, brethren,
by the mercies of God, to present your
bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable
to God, which is your spiritual service of
worship.
Rom 12:2 And do not be conformed to this
world, but be transformed by the renewing of
your mind, so that you may prove what the
will of God is, that which is good and
acceptable and perfect. 50
Must Seek To Live In Harmony
       With God’s Word
Col 3:16 Let the word of Christ richly dwell
within you, with all wisdom teaching and
admonishing one another with psalms and
hymns and spiritual songs, singing with
thankfulness in your hearts to God.
Col 3:17 Whatever you do in word or deed,
do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving
thanks through Him to God the Father.

                                           51
Must Pray In Harmony With His
             Word
Heb 5:7 In the days of His flesh, He offered
up both prayers and supplications with loud
crying and tears to the One able to save Him
from death, and He was heard because of
His piety.

                                          52
Must Pray In Harmony With His
             Word
Act 8:18 Now when Simon saw that the
Spirit was bestowed through the laying on of
the apostles' hands, he offered them money,
Act 8:19 saying, "Give this authority to me
as well, so that everyone on whom I lay my
hands may receive the Holy Spirit."

                                          53
Must Pray In Harmony With His
             Word
Act 8:21 "You have no part or portion in this
matter, for your heart is not right before God.
Act 8:22 "Therefore repent of this
wickedness of yours, and pray the Lord that,
if possible, the intention of your heart may
be forgiven you.

                                             54
Must Pray In Harmony With His
             Word
Jas 5:16 Therefore, confess your sins to
one another, and pray for one another so
that you may be healed. The effective prayer
of a righteous man can accomplish much.

Must Pray In Harmony With His
             Word
Jas 4:1 What is the source of quarrels and
conflicts among you? Is not the source your
pleasures that wage war in your members?
Jas 4:2 You lust and do not have; so you
commit murder. You are envious and cannot
obtain; so you fight and quarrel. You do not
have because you do not ask.

                                          56
Must Pray In Harmony With His
             Word
Jas 4:3 You ask and do not receive,
because you ask with wrong motives, so
that you may spend it on your pleasures.
Jas 4:4 You adulteresses, do you not know
that friendship with the world is hostility
toward God? Therefore whoever wishes to
be a friend of the world makes himself an
enemy of God.

                                          57
Must Pray In Harmony With His
             Word
Jas 4:5 Or do you think that the Scripture
speaks to no purpose: "He jealously desires
the Spirit which He has made to dwell in
us"?
Jas 4:6 But He gives a greater grace.
Therefore it says, "GOD IS OPPOSED TO
THE PROUD, BUT GIVES GRACE TO THE
HUMBLE."

                                          58
Must Pray In Harmony With His
             Word
Jas 4:7 Submit therefore to God. Resist the
devil and he will flee from you.
Jas 4:8 Draw near to God and He will draw
near to you. Cleanse your hands, you
sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-
minded.

                                           59
Must Pray In Harmony With His
             Word
1Jn 3:22 and whatever we ask we receive
from Him, because we keep His
commandments and do the things that are
pleasing in His sight.
1Jn 3:23 This is His commandment, that we
believe in the name of His Son Jesus Christ,
and love one another, just as He
commanded us.

Must Pray In Harmony With His
             Word
1Jn 3:24 The one who keeps His
commandments abides in Him, and He in
him. We know by this that He abides in us,
by the Spirit whom He has given us.

Must Pray In Harmony With His
             Word
1Jn 5:14 This is the confidence which we
have before Him, that, if we ask anything
according to His will, He hears us.
1Jn 5:15 And if we know that He hears us in
whatever we ask, we know that we have the
requests which we have asked from Him.

Must Pray In Harmony With His
             Word
1Jn 5:16 If anyone sees his brother
committing a sin not leading to death, he
shall ask and God will for him give life to
those who commit sin not leading to death.
There is a sin leading to death; I do not say
that he should make request for this.
1Jn 5:17 All unrighteousness is sin, and
there is a sin not leading to death.

                                                63
         Pray For The Lost
2Pe 3:9 The Lord is not slow about His
promise, as some count slowness, but is
patient toward you, not wishing for any to
perish but for all to come to repentance.
Rom 10:1 Brethren, my heart's desire and
my prayer to God for them is for their
salvation.
Rom 10:2 For I testify about them that they
have a zeal for God, but not in accordance
with knowledge. 64
Pray That We and All Christians
 Remain Faithful To The Lord
Rev 2:10 'Do not fear what you are about to
suffer. Behold, the devil is about to cast
some of you into prison, so that you will be
tested, and you will have tribulation for ten
days. Be faithful until death, and I will give
you the crown of life.
Joh 15:5 "I am the vine, you are the
branches; he who abides in Me and I in him,
he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you
can do nothing. 65
Pray That We and All Christians
 Remain Faithful To The Lord
Joh 15:6 "If anyone does not abide in Me,
he is thrown away as a branch and dries up;
and they gather them, and cast them into
the fire and they are burned.
Col 1:9 For this reason also, since the day
we heard of it, we have not ceased to pray
for you and to ask that you may be filled with
the knowledge of His will in all spiritual
wisdom and understanding,

Pray That We and All Christians
 Remain Faithful To The Lord
Col 1:10 so that you will walk in a manner
worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all
respects, bearing fruit in every good work
and increasing in the knowledge of God;

according to His glorious might, for the
attaining of all steadfastness and patience;

Col 1:12 giving thanks to the Father, who
has qualified us to share in the inheritance
of the saints in Light.

Pray For Wisdom As We Study
  and Mediate On His Word
Jas 1:5 But if any of you lacks wisdom, let
him ask of God, who gives to all generously
and without reproach, and it will be given to
him.
Jas 1:6 But he must ask in faith without any
doubting, for the one who doubts is like the
surf of the sea, driven and tossed by the
wind.

                                            69
Pray For Wisdom As We Study
  and Mediate On His Word
Jas 1:7 For that man ought not to expect
that he will receive anything from the Lord,
Jas 1:8 being a double-minded man,
unstable in all his ways.
Ti 3:14 You, however, continue in the things
you have learned and become convinced of,
knowing from whom you have learned them,

2Ti 3:15 and that from childhood you have
known the sacred writings which are able to
give you the wisdom that leads to salvation
through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
2Ti 3:16 All Scripture is inspired by God and
profitable for teaching, for reproof, for
correction, for training in righteousness;
2Ti 3:17 so that the man of God may be
adequate, equipped for every good work.

     Pray That We Might Not
     Surrender To Temptation
1Co 10:12 Therefore let him who thinks he
stands take heed that he does not fall.
1Co 10:13 No temptation has overtaken
you but such as is common to man; and
God is faithful, who will not allow you to be
tempted beyond what you are able, but with
the temptation will provide the way of
escape also, so that you will be able to
endure it.
                                            72
     Pray That We Might Not
     Surrender To Temptation
Luk 22:31 "Simon, Simon, behold, Satan
has demanded permission to sift you like
wheat;
Luk 22:32 but I have prayed for you, that
your faith may not fail; and you, when once
you have turned again, strengthen your
brothers."

                                              73
     Pray That We Might Not
     Surrender To Temptation
Luk 22:33 But he said to Him, "Lord, with
You I am ready to go both to prison and to
death!"
Luk 22:34 And He said, "I say to you, Peter,
the rooster will not crow today until you have
denied three times that you know Me."

   Pray For Our Daily Physical
        Needs To Be Met
Mat 6:33 "But seek first His kingdom and
His righteousness, and all these things will
be added to you.
Mat 6:11 'Give us this day our daily bread.

       Comfort, Strength and
       Deliverance In Trials
2Co 1:5 For just as the sufferings of Christ
are ours in abundance, so also our comfort
is abundant through Christ.
2Co 1:8 For we do not want you to be
unaware, brethren, of our affliction which
came to us in Asia, that we were burdened
excessively, beyond our strength, so that we
despaired even of life;

       Comfort, Strength and
       Deliverance In Trials
2Co 1:9 indeed, we had the sentence of
death within ourselves so that we would not
trust in ourselves, but in God who raises the
dead;
2Co 1:10 who delivered us from so great a
peril of death, and will deliver us, He on
whom we have set our hope. And He will yet
deliver us,

                                           77
      Comfort, Strength and
      Deliverance In Trials
2Co 1:11 you also joining in helping us
through your prayers, so that thanks may be
given by many persons on our behalf for the
favor bestowed on us through the prayers of
many.

How Should We Pray If God’s
    Specific Will Is Not Revealed?
• Often, we pray not knowing from
Scriptures specifically what the Lord will
  do
• For example, praying for healing, better
job, find a Christian mate and so on
• In these case, we must make sure we are
  following His revealed will
• Then, we pray requesting our desires and
  accepting whatever answer He provides
                                           79
How Should We Pray If God’s
    Specific Will Is Not Revealed?
• We put our faith, our trust in a heavenly
Father who is holy, loving, all- powerful all-
wise, merciful, just, perfect in all ways
• He always provides what is best for His
  people

all and was distressed because you had
heard that he was sick.

2Co 12:7 Because of the surpassing
greatness of the revelations, for this reason,
to keep me from exalting myself, there was
given me a thorn in the flesh, a messenger
of Satan to torment me--to keep me from
exalting myself!
2Co 12:8 Concerning this I implored the
Lord three times that it might leave me.

rather boast about my weaknesses, so that
the power of Christ may dwell in me.
2Co 12:10 Therefore I am well content with
weaknesses, with insults, with distresses,
with persecutions, with difficulties, for
