KNIGHT TALK
A DELAWARE KNIGHTS OF MAGIC PUBLICATION
November 2008
Hello Fellow Magicians!
Our November meeting is our annual auction. Bring in those “great” tricks that just didn’t fit
into your act and also be ready to get some real good stuff. Flip Richards will be the auctioneer
and Mitch Kaplan the cashier so things should run smoothly and be entertaining as usual. This
meeting’s competition will be Close-Up.
Make plans for our Christmas Party December 11. The entertainment is set with three club
Magicians – Jay Dereck, Mitch Kaplan, and Jed Spangler. Of course, we can expect an out of
town visit from Santa. We need to have a count on attendance so please sign up at the
November meeting or let any officer know. Check the December newsletter or the web site as
final plans and the menu are completed.
For the January meeting we are asking members to bring, demo, and discuss “liquid” magic.
Tickets have gone on sale for the 65th annual Banquet June 20, 2009 at $45/person. These make
excellent Christmas presents and seating preference is in order of purchase so order soon.
Our yearly dues are DUE! They’re only $25. Please pay them in a timely fashion.
Bob Little’s Super Sunday: This One Day Mini Magic Convention will be held on November
23rd from 10:00AM – 10:00PM. It will be held at the Holiday Inn, 3499 Street Road,
Bensalem, PA 19020. Bob Little’s Guaranteed Magic and Joe Mogar are two of the regular
dealers. For more information view Bob’s website: www.BobLittlesSuperSunday.com
Hope to see you at the November meeting. Watch www.dkom.org for updates.

candy. My favorite routine was where the magician tears open a Skittles
package, removes and eats a few Skittles and then reseals and hands the sealed
package to a spectator. Like many of Mike’s ideas, it used standard techniques

extreme sleights. All of the magic was well thought out and entertaining. He
Sam Bailey

Magic1rabbit2c@netzero.com Mike has also worked on ideas for marketing. He discussed those superficially.
He had an inexpensive booklet that went into more detail for anyone interested.
Mike was a likeable, skilled magician who showed how to take ideas and
techniques most of us know and get more out of them with some thought.

At the Executive Meeting there were a number of items discussed on which we desire members’
comments and suggestions. For January we are considering having a night of liquid magic. We
would ask everyone to bring a routine that uses liquids in some manner. There are classics in
this genre such as Airborne, the Magic Milk Pitcher and producing or vanishing a full glass of
liquid. There are also some lesser known items such as Hynocup where someone tastes the
liquid in a cup and then after the magician makes a “hypnotic suggestion” the liquid loses all
taste. I am sure there are many more I haven’t mentioned.
To have a definite and fair cutoff point for entering the contest, it has been decided that once the
presiding officer calls the meeting to order, no further entries to the contest will be allowed.
We are looking for suggestions and help with the Christmas party. The Executive Board
learned its lesson from last year and will assure that there is more than enough food. There are
discussions as to what food and what price. You can offer your suggestions to the president;
better yet, attend the November Executive Meeting at 7:30 PM on November 20 th at the Golden
Dove Restaurant in New Castle.
We are beginning to look for talent for the banquet. If you know a good act that you feel we
should consider, please E-mail the president (paulesimacek@comcast.net) with as much
information as possible.

Review by Mitch Kaplan
Damasuda Deck
First the good: It is easy to do. The appearance of the selected card is fast and
dramatic. The deck becomes a one-way deck except for the selected card. The
directions are clear with detailed descriptions and illustrations.
Now the bad: This is the only trick you can do with the deck; it requires a force and the
one in the directions is terrible; you need very good spectator control skills to
guarantee that the method is not partially revealed.
If a quick startling revelation that is different and easy is what you want, this will fill the
bill. There are many revelations that are more dramatic, though most require more skill
than this.
