In May 2006 Austria and The Netherlands have organised the successful CCMS workshop "Environmental
Aspects of Military Compounds” in Vienna, Austria. The workshop was visited by 69 participants from 25 different countries as well as by participants from five different NATO bodies: CCMS, SHAPE , NATO School Oberammergau, ENTEC and NAMSA.
Based on the conclusions of the Vienna workshop a proposal for the second phase of the Compounds
project has been worked out by the three co-directing countries: Germany, the Netherlands and the United States of America. The NATO “Committee on Science for Peace and Security” (formerly CCMS) has recently agreed to this proposal.
The Compounds II project will consist of three workshops in the period Spring 2007 –Spring 2008. The Turkey (October 2007) and the third and final one (presumably) in Amsterdam, The Netherlands (May 2008).
