      A. North Fond du Lac Historical Society Website Update: Jim reported that the finished website
design will soon become available online.

      B. Caboose

           1. Landscaping Ideas

                a. Mike has not yet received landscaping plans from John Redmond/Stuart's
Landscaping & Garden Center Inc. (N7820 Lakeshore Drive, North Fond du Lac).
                b. Marjean will consult with Jennifer Hawley (Fond Du Lac County Master Gardener
Association) during the Agnesian Garden Art Fair on Sunday, July 13.
                c. Regarding Butch Krug’s offer for North Fond du Lac Boy Scout Troop 705 to assist
with landscaping, Mike believes they would first require plans.

           2. Soo Line/Chicago and Northwestern Signs

                a. Mike has no prices yet for the “Soo Line” and “Chicago & Northwestern” logos to be
affixed to the caboose, but he will consult with Hopper’s and report back.
                b. Marjean gave Mike her patch so he would have both for samples at Hopper’s.
                c. The logos on the patches from Bud were similar to the following:

Meeting Minutes Page 3 of 5

      C. Mobile Home Possibility

           1. Lucy called Chris at Steenberg Homes. He noted that he would like to work and talk with
the village but does not know what the Historical Society needs.

           2. Lucy noted that Flood Homes donated a mobile home to FACES that is located on Merrill
Avenue and Amory Street in Fond du Lac.

           3. Following discussion, it was concluded that despite needing a place to display history, the
Historical Society does not have the financial resources required to maintain and insure a
building. Mike will talk with the new library director, Heather Wegner, to clarify her
position regarding Historical Society use of the library.

      D. North Fondy Fest—June 21, 2008

           1. There was more traffic this year. There were three membership renewals and two books
sold. Bud, Lucy, Marjean, Deanna, and Gordy Treffert were there all or part of the time
                from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

           2. Due to helping with flood cleanup in Fond du Lac, Jim put up signs at Village Park and set
up at the Community Center but did not stay. Deanna returned the laptop computer and
cash box to Jim and the display boards and plaques to Lois Potratz at the library. The T-
shirts are still in her car’s trunk.

           3. Deanna proposed that next year Culver’s be located in the Community Center rather than
                on the grounds.

           4. Deanna proposed that the Historical Society invest in a banner similar to the one
displayed on the Community Center entrance by the Fond du Lac Society of Model
                Railroad Hobbyists, Inc.

                a. The size should be 4’ H x 8’ L or smaller.
                b. There was discussion without conclusion regarding how to hang it.
                c. Mike will contact Hopper’s for a cost estimate.

           5. Mike has a follow-up North Fondy Fest meeting on Sunday, August 10.

      E. Village Greeting Sign

           1. Deanna proposed purchasing a third North Fond du Lac Historical Society sign that would
be mounted on the “Welcome to North Fond du Lac” post located on Prospect Avenue at
the north entrance of the village.

DEANNA LEFEBER MOVED AND JIM BRIDENBAUGH SECONDED THE MOTION TO
PURCHASE AN HISTORICAL SOCIETY GREETING SIGN FOR THE ‘WELCOME TO
NORTH FOND DU LAC’ SIGN LOCATED ON PROSPECT AVENUE AT THE NORTH
ENTRANCE OF THE VILLAGE. MOTION CARRIED.

              2. Mike will order it from Hopper’s.

         F. Fond du Lac Area Foundation Grant

              1. Jim reported that:

                      a. The Fond du Lac Area Foundation is aware that the North Fond du Lac Historical
Society is still interested in the grant that was awarded.
                      b. The State Historical Society does not provide interns.
                      c. Sue Steinbarth at the Fond du Lac Area Foundation is also having difficulty locating
                         interns.
                      d. Lucy advised that the Fond du Lac Historical Society president, Sally Albertz, may be
able to provide information concerning interns.

              2. Deanna will consult with the Rosendale Historical Society president, Emajean Westphal,
about the intern they had when they were awarded the same grant. 1

    V. NEW BUSINESS

         A. Quilt

              1. Alice Tzakais asked Mike for ideas specific to North Fond du Lac for a quilt to be made
                      by Friendship Learning Center students.

1
When they received the grant in 2003, the Rosendale Historical Society intern was arranged through
the Fond du Lac Area Foundation and was one of three possible interns from UW-Milwaukee. As interns,
the students receive credit as well as monetary compensation.

The next summer, the Rosendale Historical Society paid and housed the intern themselves.

Emajean recommended contacting:

--Maureen Betz, the widow of John Ebert (920-922-5351)
--Tim Hackbarth, Byron Historical Society President (920-929-8861)
--Mary Brandt, Ripon Historical Society (920-748-5354)
--Galloway House & Village, Fond du Lac (920-922-1166)

She also advised contacting an area college and/or university (e.g., Marian University, UW-Oshkosh, and
Ripon College) that offers classes concerning museum history, archeology, and/or restoration of textiles.

           2. Brainstorming produced the following ideas: the railroad, schools, churches, and
                businesses.

           3. Mike will follow up with Alice.

      B. Class Reunion: Deanna reported that Jim Moore and his Class of 1958 are celebrating their 50-
year reunion on Saturday, July 12.

 V. ADJOURNMENT: The next meeting is at 6 p.m. Wednesday, August 13, 2008, at Spillman Public

                                                     Respectfully submitted,

                                                     Deanna L. Lefeber
