local WWII Veterans.

In October, the Chapter teamed up with Care

Assurance for the Aging and Homebound (CASA) of

Madison County and added ramp construction to the

list of volunteer work its members already participate

in, including cleaning baseball fields, providing

scholarships to local students, and taking leadership

roles in Memorial and Veteran’s Day events. “We are

primarily a volunteer organization. Volunteer work is

what we like to do,” said Johnie, who is secretary of

the Redstone Arsenal Chapter.

CASA wheelchair ramps are designed by engineers, based on the space around the

front door of a home. “Even though we have an engineer’s pencil drawing and a

picture of the site, each ramp has to be specifically modified for the site and the

standards. We do a custom job based on the set of standards,” said Max, the chapter

President.

The Warrant Officers Association first began working with CASA after Retiree

Appreciation Day 2006. “I went over to the CASA table to find out about what they

did. We had built a wheelchair ramp for a disabled Vietnam veteran in Athens in

2005 under the direction of the Disabled Veterans Association,” said Joe, who is the

association’s Vice President of Retiree Affairs.

Max, Johnie, and Joe all work in our Acquisition, Logistics & Systems Engineering

Division in Huntsville. For more information about the Warrant Officers Association

or CASA, visit the Redstone Arsenal Chapter or CASA of Madison County websites.
