Dear Parents/Guardians:

There is one thing that all successful people have in common – they love
to read. If you ask, you will be told they read everything: books,
magazines, newspapers, maps, directions, cereal boxes, comic books,
brochures, etc. You name it – they read it!

The most important factor in predicting a child’s success in school is
their ability to read. Unfortunately, reading can be a real struggle for
many children. Instilling a love of reading can encourage even reluctant
readers to keep trying. There is nothing like reading a book to get a
child to use their imagination and open themselves up to new ideas and
information.

Therefore, I encourage students to read at every opportunity. I also
make use of the book clubs available for schools. The book prices are
always discounted and usually a good bargain. You would not believe the
excitement when a book order arrives. Students wait, very
impatiently, for me to open up and sort out an order. I encourage
students to earn and use their own money to purchase a book. There is
something about owning your own book that just can’t be explained. I
do earn points for each dollar spent, which I use to purchase additional
books for our classroom. The only other reward I earn is the
satisfaction in watching my students read a new book.
