well as gems such as the Genoveva and Julius Caesar overtures. The 2010
Winter Festival—Italy: Land of Song & Expression—comes alive with
Vivaldi’s famous Four Seasons, Respighi’s massive Pines of Rome and
Verdi’s monumental Requiem. The NJSO’s highly successful Best of … series

Schumann’s fiery overture makes a fine lead-in to Poulenc’s lighthearted,
jazz-influenced double concerto, played by twin sisters! Brahms composed his
second symphony while visiting the Austrian Alps; abundant in flowing
melodies, it finds the composer in a cheerful and expansive mood.

expression of patriotism.

    BEST OF …
After an overwhelming artistic and box-office success
during the 2008–09 season, the NJSO is thrilled to
present the second season of its Best of … series. We invite you to explore the elements that make a concert fun
and engaging without having to break the bank, worry about what to wear or wonder when to clap.
These four 75-minute concerts include speaking from the stage, theatrical elements and plenty of beautiful music
that you’ll recognize, including favorites by Tchaikovsky, music from Italy’s rich land of song, Mussorgsky’s
beloved Pictures at an Exhibition and Stravinsky’s magical Firebird. (You can even “test drive” the series with
    audio clips available at www.njsymphony.org/BestOf.)
The Best of … series is featured in four venues throughout New Jersey: Morristown’s Community Theatre,
Trenton’s War Memorial, Red Bank’s Count Basie Theatre and Englewood’s bergenPAC. Choose your favorite
location and reserve your seats today!
